Smart motorways, again

dailymail.co.uk/news/articl … nment.html

In a nutshell, 16 mile stretch of smart motorway (m1 between junction 32 and 35) where 4 people have died raised over £6 million in fines.

I know this is USA orientated, but it was a fair few years back, but the same stands for here in the UK…
There is profanity.

Smart motorway part of M1 killed four people has raised £6million in speeding fines for government | Daily Mail Online

In a nutshell, 16 mile stretch of smart motorway (m1 between junction 32 and 35) where 4 people have died raised over £6 million in fines.

So that’s 600,000 people stupid enough to voluntarily and willingly hand out £100. Ain’t rocket science to avoid getting caught.

NOW YOU JUST WENT AND DONE IT…!!!
conor is our resident limping self appointed driving god…look up his previous posts and the realise the error (or futility of your ways my good man…

I still reckon my “don’t use live lane hard shoulder unless you have to” - is a good idea.

If there are four lanes, and I’m pottering along in lane 2 - what’s the harm??

Where’s the harm indeed. Where’s the harm in someone driving at 15mph in a 30 limit in perfect conditions? Where’s the harm in the driver who sits in the right hand lane at a roundabout with his left hand indicator on waiting for someone to let him in? Where’s the harm in the person who straddles two parking slots? Where’s the harm in the person who drives at night with his rear fog lights on so he can be seen? Where’s the harm in the guy who parks in the disabled bay 'cos “I’ll only be a minute”?

I’ll tell you where the ■■■■ ing harm is; it’s against the rules of the road! If you can’t follow basic ■■■■ ing instruction then get the ■■■■ off the road and leave it to people who can do! :imp:

‘Motorists Break Speed Limit And Get Fined’

No, I’ve tried, but I’m struggling to see what’s wrong with that.

If you can’t see an ■■■■■■ great number with a red circle round it right over your lane, you shouldn’t be driving and fully deserve a fine. Cruise control is great - just set it at the limit and let it do its job.

That’ll work well on a smart motorway :open_mouth:

Care to explain that? Sorry if I’m missing something.

Ask the line of cars and trucks sat behind you getting ■■■■■■ off, while you’re ‘‘pottering’’ in your famous ‘‘instrument of death’’ :unamused: … turning the 4 lane Mway back to a 3 lane M.way :unamused: , those who have to either undertake you or zig zag around you.
Professional driver my arse. :unamused:

Big +1

This sort of thing is a big problem with a lot of drivers. They can’t see the harm or in other cases they don’t know the correct way. The roads are filled with all these experts that don’t have an Effin clue. :imp:

The one that’s the same as the number in the big red circle. It’s not rocket science.

If you’re…

Daydreaming in lane 2 3 or 4, I’ll happily pass you on the inside.

We need to evolve from ‘I can’t pass him on the inside because it’s against Queensbury rules’.

Just get on with it.

And…

Another who decides their own rules. :unamused:

Aye, that’s ok until you get the ■■■■■■■■ who is hogging the lane deciding to pull back in without using his mirrors.
If it’s a car he ends up travelling broadside being pushed along (or worse) then you are in deep ■■■■.
If it’s a truck (and/or Winseer in his ‘‘instrument of death’’…never ceased to amuse me that  ) you end up down the embankment. :bulb:

Better to Police the whole system instead, either properly the old fashioned way with cars, or with cameras, and nick the perpetrators,…then it may run smoothly.

Do you think…

It is safer to cross two lanes to pass a vehicle that’s dawdling in lane 2 and then return to lane 1, or just pass on the inside?
