Thanks for helping me out Yoda. I’ve been guilty of misreading the rules.
I always thought that the matrix signs were telling me to use the hard shoulder, not asking me if I ’ fancied it '. Another of my mistakes is to keep left unless overtaking. So from now on, if I am doing 50 mph in lane 1 past Fort Dunlop (in a 50 ) and come across a tool in lane 2 doing 45 mph, I will obviously slow down
It is safer to cross two lanes to pass a vehicle that’s dawdling in lane 2 and then return to lane 1, or just pass on the inside?
It does not matter what I think. Rules are rules and drivers that break them cause problems. IE the dawdler in lane 2 and the ones that undertake. Strange you did not mention RR’s scenario?
Being a professional (lorry driver) I always stuck to the rules and still do when driving. Two wrongs don’t make a right. As I said it’s drivers that break them to suit their own agenda that causes a lot of the problems on th roads.
IE, It’s quiet so I can speed. It’s dark so I can speed. I will never crash so I can tailgate. I can undertake because I think that is safer.
surely a armchair viking with as much self proclaimed expertise and professional knowledge in all things from a frying pan to a space rocket would know that the person hogging any lane apart from the inside one is committing a careless driving offence and risks prosecution from the proper authorities?
as the previous poster correctly states, then undertaking is perfectly legal if the myopic wazzock is dawding along in the wrong lane.
check with google before spouting more pish.( thats conors and carryfasts job now as trampydemonectect are all quiet nowadays)
The 32 to 36 bit is all running lanes rather than sometimes hard shoulder, but quite a few bits turn into left lane is a long sliproad.
I suspect the reason for speeding fines is those going over 70 as the drivers of certain cars don’t realise the cameras are on 24/7. The more points, the more chance of the idiots getting removed from the roads.

Usually at the lower end of the scale and for no reason at all or a ficticious one.Follow the money.Including the fact that they have to create some sort of disincentive to stop people choosing to drive so as to keep the rail fares monopoly cash rolling in.

Check out No 4… and try to understand CONGESTED.
Taken from number 4…
‘There is no law itself against the act of undertaking, but it can count as an offence under careless or even dangerous driving.’ Yet, I’ve never been stopped for careless or dangerous driving despite passing police cars in this manner.
Are you seriously suggesting that when all 4 lanes of the M25 are crawling at for example 30mph, everyone holds back on the inside lanes? Are you telling me that when you’re in a 4 lane jam you stay behind the guy in lane 2? Dartford crossing would cease to function at all if people didn’t pass on the inside.
We’re way off topic with this, you may have the last word.

dont worry,he will.the alternative being to ignore everything completely for a while, then hey presto, back for some more as if the ridiculing never happened…

Second point though, and sorry to be pedantic, but ‘undertaking’ has nothing to do with passing slower moving traffic on the lane to your right. On congested motorways this will happen frequently.
If you’re stuck behind a middle-lane dawdler and choose to go to the inside lane to pass him, then move back to the middle lane then THAT’S undertaking.
Very naughty.

I am glad someone understands the “second point”. Both lane hoggers and undertakers are both as bad as each other and need dealt with severely. Unfortunately both do it day in day out and believe they are doing nothing wrong. Blame each other for their poor driving standards.

well it looks like we got both ignored and also a victim of the last word…you must feel honoured.
Jake you are one hell of a troll, good work fella.
Undertaking is subjective, depending on how much of an idiot you are.
If you are travelling at an appropriate speed and keeping to the leftmost available lane, then you are simply making progress, which is perfectly legal
If you are driving like a ■■■■ then you are undertaking, which is dangerous and illegal and I did it plenty when younger and stupider.
I keep left nowadays and am in no rush but I’ll happily use the left lane and hard shoulder to pass slower cars all day long.
I won’t pass wagons on the inside if I can help it, even if they are STAYING OUT because the left lane is only available for the next three miles and they can’t be arsed with that

Thanks idrive but I ain’t a troll. I am a retired lorry driver who has probably done more miles in reverse than some have going forwards. I have driven trucks made in the 50’s, 60’s 70’s and so on up to the most modern auto before I retired.
My gripe has always been bad driving and especially when it comes to so called professionals. Every time I am back in the UK I normally travel from Dover or Hull right up north so I see the appalling standards of some. Idiots galore and the sad bit is most of them think they are the bees knees.
Then I come on here and read some of the posts and it all relates to what I see on the roads. Making up their own rules to suit their own agenda and blaming everone but themselves.
It’s all good fun on here but when it comes to reality it gets serious sometimes unfortunately.
