Slow slow slow stobarts/tesco wagon

speed limits are a maximum speed not a target speed!..if you want to go faster on the motorway pass me…if you want to do 56 on a single carriageway tough…i have a clean licence and try to keep it that way…why is everyone in such a rush?..trucks nose to tail…cutting in so close in front? no wonder there are so many trucks running into the back of the traffic in front?..chill out…stay safe…get home in one peice to your families?

+1 nothing but bloody rush rush rush in this country now. As xamtex says, if you want to go faster on mway, OVERTAKE, it’s not friggin rocket science!

I think it’s safer for a artic to be going full speed…

Wat? :open_mouth:

People who think they’ll turn into a pumpkin or explode or something if they come off the limiter are dangerous.

You’re supposed to drive to the conditions. If the conditions include vehicles going slower than you’d like them to be going, then so be it.

Adapt and overcome.

It’s called being a driver. :unamused:

Lol I know what I mean

That way your thinking of the children.

Ken.

I start earlier on the bulk muck shift I’m on at the moment, get there before site opens to get a 15 in. Otherwise 3 loads from Tring to Ardley (must be on the weighbridge by 4pm and site doesn’t open before 7.30) is not a 40mph day if you know what I mean…

I have no axe to grind here, but this morning on the M62 eastbound, near to the A19 exit it got a bit silly with trucks swerving and braking and what have you…quote]

The trucks that brake and swerve are driven by steering-wheel attendants, not professional drivers. A proper driver will have read the road ahead, especially on a motorway FFS, and adjusted their driving accordingly. Any rapid braking/swerving is caused because they were not doing their job and they should give up driving as a living.

I agree, drivers do drive too close to the vehicle in front.
But, we are where we are!
I personally like to run at about 53 mph and chill out.
I only do about 5 or 6 hours driving a shift most days!
But trucks doing 40 on the motorway is a pain, no doubt.

It’s not the speed that is the problem in most cases. It is travelling too close, poor observation and no anticipation.
No truck or car should be suddenly swerving anywhere on a motorway .

All very true!
But,it remains a fact, that it was slightly alarming, and, the bigger the speed difference the greater potential for accidents.
He was traveling away from goole, still,he could have been hanging it out,I don’t know,I don’t pretend to be an expert.

speed limits are a maximum speed not a target speed!..every mph faster i go im losing money as an hourly paid driver, and of course im trying to hit my feul bonus(which has little to do with speed…keep it in the green,no harsh braking, minimum idling and use cruise control and a fiver a shift is in my pocket).
if you want to go faster on the motorway pass me…if you want to do 56 on a single carriageway tough…i have a clean licence and try to keep it that way…why is everyone in such a rush?..trucks nose to tail…cutting in so close in front? no wonder there are so many trucks running into the back of the traffic in front?..chill out…stay safe…get home in one peice to your families?

+3 my licence and I carry very high value loads on what are little more than dirt tracks

so who’s fault is it when you have a push bike in the road doing lets say 5mph when everything around it can do 30 :open_mouth:

The only difference is the type of road ffs :unamused:

If i was sent out in a lorry with the limiter set a a ridiculously low speed, It would be returned to the yard as a faulty lorry.

There is no minimum speed limit anywhere unless there are blue minimum speed signs. You can’t however drive so slowly as to cause an obstruction or danger to other road users.

You really do get over the slower speed very quickly. I haven’t driven a 90km truck in years and I’m not sure i’d want to start doing so again, lifes so much easier tootling along in lane 1.

A mate of mine said exactly the same.
But i’m not one to be forced to do anything. If i drive at 45mph on a motorway, Then it’s my decision, Not some office bods.

I thought the answer to that would have been obvious. If a cyclist is cycling along at 5 mph which he or she is legally entitled to do and a vehicle approaching from behind cannot avoid that cyclist then they are at fault as long as the cyclist is a reasonable distance from the kerb.
It is all about anticipation. The speed difference between vehicles and cyclists in not ideal but is a fact of life and needs to dealt with in a professional manner.
Unfortunately some drivers have very little skill when it comes to anticipation.Usually in far to much of a hurry with little regard for others safety.

Cyclist on a 70mph duel carriage way is not a good mix. They need to stay of the road for there safety and stick to the cycle routes. I don’t care what people will think but it’s stupid for a cyclist to be on a 70mph road doing 10mph. This

"Unfortunately some drivers have very little skill when it comes to anticipation. Usually in far to much of a hurry with little regard for others safety.

A vehicle moving at a very fast speed will come up against that cyclist very quickly. Now days cars won’t allow a HGV to move over in to lane 2 to get past

There’s an awful lot of people here who’ve passed a test but haven’t learned to drive yet…

As do I; hence my concern.

If you ever graduate from steering wheel attendant to trucker, or (and this is doubtful) reach the dizzy heights of lorry driver, you might realise how daft you sound. :unamused:

Maybe drivers who are unable to negotiate a cyclist are the ones who should stay off the roads.

A cycle has the RIGHT to use the road, the driver of a motorised vehicle (other than invalidity carriages) has the LICENSED PRIVILEGE to use the road, for which they’ve had to pass a test to prove their capability for dealing with ALL KINDS of traffic.

This US AND THEM attitude is the problem, if there’s no ‘NO CYCLING’ sign (which is usually accompanied by a no pedestrian and no horse / horse and cart sign - and usually only on motorways, tunnels and certain bridges) then it’s legal for the cycle to be there and YOUR responsibility to deal with it or hand your licence back and get the hell off the road for everybody’s safety :smiling_imp:

edited to add

I’ll be cycling from Manchester to Blackpool in June, on a variety of roads including 30mph zones, NSL singles and even some NSL dual carriageways, do me a favour and stay the hell away, thanks :grimacing:
