I always drift away from any vehicle/person on the hard shoulder when its safe for me to do so. I used to be a surveyor and worked on live carriageways so I can appreciate how dangerous a place it is.
Have signed this petition and I make a point of moving out but unfortunately a lot of others dont there is a little problem in this country if one driver does something wrong we all get tarred with the same brush
Hello all, sad news Im afraid, the lad that was heading up the SDMO campaign has decided to quit due to personnel reasons, not wanting to lose the momentum that I helped build up with the campaign I have decided to keep the ball rolling but with severe changes, The new AWARE campaign will NOT be asking for a law change, I will NOT be asking that drivers are told how to drive and I will NOT be tied to a one year campaign petition, I will however be asking that habits change through a series of campaign advertisements, I will also be asking that HATO and all other relevant authorities help us more when they can by offering assistance if requested, I will be asking that drivers still slow when on approach to a breakdown however to pull out into another carriageway at the same time is reckless and foolhardy, we will ask for space to work, but only if it is safe to do so.
I know a lot of you have helped in the past with SDMO and I am very greatfull but can you please see yourself clear and help me again. Please visit us at the new site @ www.theawarecampaign.weebly.com where I am sure you will all agree that this time we have it right.

‘… I will also be asking that HATO and all other relevant authorities help us more when they can by offering assistance if requested…’
Eh?
I can’t help observe that whilst never before has communication been easier with mobile phones & similar such devices to help organise our lives but what’s now being asked for in addition is a free nannying service for people who haven’t a clue about road or basic vehicle maintenance matters to demand free help at my tax-paying expense.
What’s wrong with urging the existing government highway agencies - not least to bring back plod and to apply/use the powers that they already have Why not urge that the same are applied/upheld to protect us and other vulnerable fools from the stupid, inconsiderate, rude, dangerous, etc, in cars: That’ll do for starters
Maybe I’m hinting that if it’s to be done at my expense, backsides sometimes need kicking for failures of compliance and not default to being wiped at the giddy insistence of the dim.
Again like others I think that this will be very hard to enforce, HOWEVER I think its a great idea and people need to be educated about this. Whenever I see a vehicle on the hard shoulder (emergency or not) I slow down as long as it is safe to do so. I agree that this should be integrated into driving lessons so new drivers learn this from day one.
So it seems theres going to be a new law introduced which inhibits middle lane mania, and drivers found guilty of doing it, will be issued with an on the spot fine.
So now this piece of crap can be put where it belongs…in the bin…thank you…take it down now.

‘…the police can’t even enforce normal lane discipline let alone a law so open to interpretation ? Any kind of help will be appreciated…’
The road-using society (like the rest of UK life) is meandering into diversification by our Ivory Tower inhabiting ‘leaders’ into adversarial groups. Thus, we have the tolerant, the intolerant, the law abiding & those that push their luck.
Meanwhile, plod has been dis-empowered/erradicated on the roads and uniformed wannabees have been put into Highways Agency vehicles: Sorry, guys, and defo no-offence intended, but you’re arguably toothless, and we are all spiralling into a leaderless chasm…
That way, the UK’s pro-EU governments will not suffer a unified opposition from us in society to what it is doing - which in regard to road discipline as well as other manipulative agenda items, is very little - whilst it carries out it’s undemocratic mandate was it ■■■■ well pleases.
When I was broken down on the M80 1.00am Tuesday morning, about 95% of drivers moved over, which was comforting and thanks, but not so easy to do on the M6 in the rush hour.
i had an interesting situation this morning on the M6 where it crosses the railway north of carlisle. truck on the hard shoulder, Rhys Davies decker in L1 as i was almost level with him as i was overtaking in L2. i moved over and so did the other truck. illegal on my part but safer than forcing the Rhys Davies truck to pass close by in L1
sadly there are still some drivers around who wont bother moving over even when there is nothing near them
The Highway Man:
I didn’t get called to that one, I was covering that patch this morning.
would have been around 2 - 2.30 am on the northbound carriageway where the road climbs to pass over the railway. no idea what the problem was as i was more concerned with what was behind me so i could move over for the truck i was passing
