Ok Question i know the xl sleeper cab on is a urban myth (altho bloody shame if u drive a wendy house lol)

I’ve just checked with the man of knowledge (Dave) at the Dog and Duck. And he can confirm that you are correct.

I think there was a motion somewhere to do with bunks on top of the cab, the ones where they looked like day cabs with a pod on top, also I heard that Scania were told to stop putting the beds at the front of the cab for safety on the topliners as if someone backed into your truck while you were asleep you would take the impact.

if there’s no night heater leave the engine running it’s not your fuel.

I wonder how many sleeper cab urban myths we can actually get in one post?  :stuck_out_tongue:

There is one particular one I am waiting to see posted as I have a little side bet with someone as to whether it will appear or not. :stuck_out_tongue:

I was told that to have a proper break you had to be 1.8 metres away from the wheel. The guy had an O licence, ran his own fleet of trucks and knew his stuff inside out. Was he winding me up?

Is that your head, your legs or what…to be 1.8 metres away from the wheel you would probably have to curl up into a ball on the bunk as far to the nearside of the cab as possible…oh and dont forget to push your steering wheel forward thatll give you at least another 80 cm.
The guy who told you this either didnt know his stuff or was winding you up…its utter BS

Im not sure that it is a myth, how many Scania’s are made now with the beds at the front ? How many over cab sleepers do you see made nowadays ? None !!! Gone are the days of Murfitts etc.

urban myth 1. .
if you sleep in the top bunk you must wear a helmet and harness, incase you fall out (h+s you know).

urban myth 2.

trampers , who sleep out monday to friday for a minimum 32 weeks a year are entitled to a discount on the community charge.

Don t matter from October we can only work 48 Hrs so no point in working as there will be no money in the job…
Arnt our MPs wonderful??

That’s because the front mounted top bunk in the Topline wasn’t popular with drivers & cab top sleepers like those on Murfitts were only needed for the old length laws, now the length of the cargo carrying part is limited to a maximum of whatever it is within 18.75m, therefore leaving room for a normal length cab.

Where are you getting that from?

Another sleeper cab Urban Myth:

You must have a TV licence for your truck if you use a TV and in the address part on the application you put your registration number.

That was a popular one for a while, dropped down the charts a bit recently. :stuck_out_tongue:

Right, lets get a little factual perspective here,
Firstly the factory acts define what is an acceptable working enviroment, in terms of space, temperature and facitiies, guess what , as a truck driver you are excluded from those regs, they do not apply to you.

sleeper cabs, if anyone can find me in law that you need “X” anount of space then I will but there beers all night, same with a night heater, all that is required in law is access to a bunk, a day cab with a fold down bunk is legal(although not very pleasant)

anything else is pure testicles, for mobile workers is no minimum space or temperature limits in fact mobile workers are excluded spcificaly from the regulations

bugger off rikki, we’re having fun with this one

So the moral of the story is to take a good quality sleeping bag with you for those nights out if you have no night heater. I loved a quote from one of our drivers (sleeper cabs are few and far between at my place)
“I like having a sleeper cab, the night heaters are great. It means you don’t have to run the engine to stay warm on your break”

this one is almost as good as the driver who runs out of hours on a bay and police come and mark tyres blah blah blah. Heard that one 3 times in one rdc in my 4 hour wait. I said to the last bloke it’s a small world as two of his mates were in earlier telling me the same story. So they must know each other even though they were all from different parts of the country. Haha he felt like a right numpty especially when the guys next to me who had also heard the same story in different rdcs started taking the ■■■■

better still, take mattress off bed, and plonk it 1.8 metres away from truck and sleep under the stars… :open_mouth:
