That was somthing i had wanted to ask, at the firm my old man worked for they had a flirt with mercs the first being a 35, the others being 38s before back to scanias. Anyway the first one a v8 35 was opened up a bit and went like a train, were these the same engine as the 44/48s?.

Yes NB12, they were basically the same 14.62 litre engines, the obvious difference being that the 44/48 were intercooled, where as the 35s just made do with turbos, internally there were other differences cams and I believe the piston alloys were not the same. Of course the 25 and 28 were also the same block, but normally aspirated.

The 38s on the other hand went back to the short stoke 12.76 litre block first seen in the 1626 and just showed what a difference two turbos and an intercooler would have made 15 years earlier.

That deeley merc is a beauty… :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

i seem to remember reading an article in one of the mags about a husband and wife team who double manned one of these , they apparently lived in it if i remember right . i’m sure it was bronze coloured and E.P.S .
long time ago though … so maybe not…

I love this Hair Brain one :stuck_out_tongue:

I didn’t really get excited about SK Mercs after driving a 2033 to Austria a couple of times. Although I did look more favourably when Bertschi bought two 500’s for Simmo and Ginge.
