Strap your own load ? no wonder you’re starting to go off the job. It’s the thin end of the wedge mate, before long they will want you to take the straps off at the other end as well.
Walk away mate, too many employers taking the ■■■■ and expecting drivers to work for a living.
Regards. John.

I’m going off it as I didn’t do the traing the others did on strapping as I was on holiday ,it now concerns me and puts me off as I’m now going to be hauling loads of concrete / steel and God knows what else around hoping on a wim and a prayer it doesn’t fall off ,as Santa says your not dealing with pallets of beans :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: ,and God knows what I’m going to do if presented with some rope and a sheet .

Ffs dozy it’s chucking straps over concrete, it aint nuclear physics or brain surgery. Why are you getting in such a flap man.
Just because Stobarts do 6 wk [zb] training course for every aspect of the job from removing your flask top to dropping a trailer does not mean in reality it’s necessary.
I ain’t going down the boring road of how we were just left to learn stuff ourselves in the old days, but we DID manage, but with your lot it has gone from one extreme to the other.
Job training is unarguably a good thing these days compared to years ago, but you can be shown by another driver all the aspects of how to strap up concrete /required tension and tightness/protectors/where to put straps on trombones/strap position where the beams are not going to flex, and shear the strap, and all the rest of it in about an hour, by listening, taking it in and using good old fashioned common sense, without being a bloody ‘Academy of Stobart Excellence Student’ it’s just an arse covering excercise.
I thought you had done the job a long time, or are you a member of the Green Brainwashed, swallowed the hype and Bull sh, and lost sense of reality.

I know rob but after years of doing a-b-a with a map to tell you how to get there I’ve lost that confidence I had before there employment ( to be honest I’ve never been that confident person in any aspects of life) and that’s why I’ve not jumped years ago.
But by caving in and agreeing to work elsewhere on what should of been a short term basis and is now going on and on I’ve backed myself into a corner where I can’t continue to keep traveling hours ,100,s of miles to work and back
So I’m going to either have to bite the bullet and go for this or take job offers ,maybe that’s what I need to get out of my comfort zone.
But yea your right mate ,had it to easy for to long .

Radar19:
Wait, given all thats happened to you in the last few months, they are trusted you with 20 odd tons of the grey stuff? God have mercy on us all!

THANKYOU radar for your vote of confidence in me    ,nothing like knocking a man when he’s down and feeling sorry for himself  ,got my truckers atlas and just visited w h smith for big London a-z ,off to get a phone with maps on ,ordering Tom tom truck sat nav ,surely I can find the elephant and castle with that lot :exclamation: :exclamation: ,it’s just if the loads still attached and buildings still standing when I get there .
Off now to plan my route ,wish me luck :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

happysack:
I’m trying to keep up but alas my brain is addled. I have a cranium full of corporate bull crap.

Nah, I’m fairly sure you aint one of the brainwashed crew.
I’m being complimentary to you HS…I must be slipping.

Oh I’m a right company man. Nah joking!

peirre:

I should of took my redundancy 2 years ago when they asked for volenteurs,I knew it would come back too haunt me .
But THANKYOU for all the advice and help ,it’s very much appreciated

There’s never a right or wrong with redundancy, only to do what you think is the best for you at the time. I bet many of those who took it wish they’d not bothered.

Conor:
I bet many of those who took it wish they’d not bothered.

Can’t agree with you there Conor. If it was a 50k+ a year job I’d agree with you, but in this case it was Stobbies, jobs that match or surpass Stobbies wages are 10 a penny, so taking redundancy from them is akin to be handed free money. Finish Friday, bank cheque, start Monday on A N other firm paying similar.

Twice Ive been in the position of either TUPE or redundancy, and both times Ive taken the money, then walked into similar situations almost immediately.
The 2nd time I engineered my exit as the firm taking over where adamant I should transfer & redundancy wasn’t an option, so I told em I didn`t have a car as I walked to work, & wouldn’t be able to travel to the new site 25 + miles away. So they caved up and paid me off

Back to my base as of tomorrow ( car will be glad of the rest ,I will ,2 hrs to get home tonight ) then few days on days ,then tramping as of Monday ,not on the expected flat work ,anything else by the sound of it ,new truck ,but I’m not so sure of the we’ve invested heavily in top spec kit ,r450 highline ,but not complaining ,it beats a AXOR hands down .
Didn’t like the we may need you to use your car to commute on odd days ,why would you need to if your a tramper with your own truck

Bloody hell Dozy, your working life is certainly not boring is it mate ?
Regards. John.
