A lot of places won’t let you on the trailer at all while onsite, B&Q springs to mind, so when the internal straps get caught on a stillage with lots of stuff sticking out the top to get snagged on them nobody is allowed up there to untangle them, queue the forklift driver spending 20mins shimmying it around trying to unshake the straps. They introduced those wheels staircases to let ‘trained’ yards people onto your trailer to deal with such scenarios now, obviously the steps on the back of the trailer aren’t good enough…or the 2ft step onto the actual deck of the low trailer bed.
Think you’d have to be mad to use 4 straps on 20 ton of concrete, i’d mummify it.

Rule No1 at inductions… Keep your gob shut.
As there’s always some bloke who’ll ask rediculous questions to the instructor and the day drags on, and on, and on. Where as if you shut up and listen, the instructor will plough through as fast as possible so they can finish early. So the 6hrs could in fact be 3-4hrs.
But if the gobby bloke won’t shut up it’ll drag out to the full 6hrs
how true mate ad one on our c.p.c scam money spinner told us his live driving history so stick to rule no.1

If I’d followed this during my ‘induction’ / ‘assessment’ at UPS, I’d have had a job, at least for a couple of days.
Instead, general chit chat over the 14hr day made me realise that my ‘assessor’ was also the dCPC instructor and didn’t actually know the rules, which resulted in a day of discussion and attempted education in the wrong direction (me teaching him - yeah, like that was ever going to work) which resulted in me commenting on it on social media, resulting in the end of the job.
So, in summary, yep, keep schtum and get the day over with as quickly as possible
DHL driver induction otherwise known as “how to ■■■■ eggs very slowly” only thing anyone going for one needs to remember is they do a Drug & Alcohol test first thing one lad I went on mine with got binned off the bat because he failed the drug test he wasn’t a Pot-head he had took some pain killers for a tooth ache the night before turns out they were co-codomols (Codine/Morphine) based blipped the test for heroine that is also relevant now with the new road side drug test rules.

If ever I get pulled for a drugs test, and if what you say is true, it will be interesting . I take Cocodamols for back pain and migraine. Are you sure that he wasn’t making excuses for being on something dodgy?
I’m not sure if there having a dig at me or it’s just a general letter that the other drivers attending this induction have had ( if there are any others attending )
Can you please arrive on time at 5 45 prompt for an 6 00 start
Please be professional and courteous and listen to what is instructed
Please follow all site instructions and remember you are the face of ---------- and first impressions count .
Zb hell you’d think we were still at primary school ,not adults going for a site induction ,if I didn’t know better I’d think he doesn’t trust me too be allowed out on my own for 6 hrs without creating mayhem
Santa:
Seriously - securing concrete and steel is different to strapping pallet of beans. Pay attention to what they say and follow the instructions exactly. The consequences of getting it wrong can be pretty bad.
This is what worries me ,the other drivers have had training on strapping of the loads which I didn’t do as on holiday ,this is site induction which the others did as well ,so I seem to be missing the training on strapping which I should of done at Runcorn / thirsk ,I seem to be being fast tracked onto the job without the correct training ,or maybe I’ll get that training at a later date after the site induction ( just getting site induction in as available ) ,we will see

Strap your own load ? no wonder you’re starting to go off the job. It’s the thin end of the wedge mate, before long they will want you to take the straps off at the other end as well.
Walk away mate, too many employers taking the ■■■■ and expecting drivers to work for a living.
Regards. John.
I’m going off it as I didn’t do the traing the others did on strapping as I was on holiday ,it now concerns me and puts me off as I’m now going to be hauling loads of concrete / steel and God knows what else around hoping on a wim and a prayer it doesn’t fall off ,as Santa says your not dealing with pallets of beans ,and God knows what I’m going to do if presented with some rope and a sheet .

Sorry Buddy it’s the Morphine/Codine that pings the heroin test even if you are on prescribed drugs and you fail the test you can be under the rule of law, there has been a influx of people seeing their Doctors to see if they can get prescribed non Morphine based pain killers, it’s a certain amount in your bloodstream that will make you fail obviously this would be done down at the station. Basically if your a pill popper better watch your back.
I used to take Co-codomol for migraines but since the changes in law I just grin and bear it really not worth loosing my license for.
There is a good chance as you are prescribed that you will be OK, providing you are under the aloud limit which I think will be set pretty high i.e Max permitted dose in 24hr period.

Ffs dozy it’s chucking straps over concrete, it aint nuclear physics or brain surgery. Why are you getting in such a flap man.
Just because Stobarts do 6 wk ■■■■■■ training course for every aspect of the job from removing your flask top to dropping a trailer does not mean in reality it’s necessary.
I ain’t going down the boring road of how we were just left to learn stuff ourselves in the old days, but we DID manage, but with your lot it has gone from one extreme to the other.
Job training is unarguably a good thing these days compared to years ago, but you can be shown by another driver all the aspects of how to strap up concrete /required tension and tightness/protectors/where to put straps on trombones/strap position where the beams are not going to flex, and shear the strap, and all the rest of it in about an hour, by listening, taking it in and using good old fashioned common sense, without being a bloody ‘Academy of Stobart Excellence Student’ it’s just an arse covering excercise.
I thought you had done the job a long time, or are you a member of the Green Brainwashed, swallowed the hype and Bull sh, and lost sense of reality.

Totally agree robroy. Strapping a load ain’t rocket science its common sense.
Maybe it the fact that there is history of rtc’s or incidents involving the said company that it’s doing this to cover it’s back with the h+s bod’s and dvsa.
Train the hell out of the staff and they shouldn’t balls up.

Yeh but they do, don’t they. I ain’t the biggest fan of Stobarts, mainly because of how far they are up their own arses.
I have a couple of good mates there, so nothing against the drivers, and I’m sure most are good lads (so get that out of the way) but some actually do believe all the b/s.
If you give intense training and are drip fed co propaganda to some, they stop thinking for themselves, rely totally on these ’ planner’ knobs, and if something out of the ordinary daily routine occurs they panic, as they have not been ‘briefed’ or ‘scenario trained’ (or whatever tf these pricks call it )
Some are brainwashed to the required standards, but are still beyond learning, as I’ve said before on here, You can not educate pork!

What rules? I climb all over my load to strap it down. Anit nobody said n’ffin to be me yet.
They won’t till you fall then it’ll be "You shouldn’t have been doing that driver " [emoji3]
Though is ludicrous. You can’t climb on to strap when loading, even though it’s easier to straps as they put on as long as not in way of girlie putting next bit on
Then they won’t let you climb on whilst on their premises to strap.
I used to move to a ■■■■■■■■■■■■ then strap but now I just point blank refuse to move unless loads fully secure. Just play them at their own game now
Well went and found it a bit daunting to be honest ,the h&s went on and on ,the rest of it I think given a bit of time ( doing the job how they want it done ) and help I’ll get there ,centre of London ,not keen but again take time and should find my way there .
I can’t continue as I am ,traveling to other depots is taking it’s toll ,wear on car is ( 700 miles a week) ,my fault I shouldn’t of caved in for some peace .
So can’t do existing job ,so it’s either this ,flats ,tramping or take one of two job offers I have ,I don’t know.
I should of took my redundancy 2 years ago when they asked for volenteurs,I knew it would come back too haunt me .
But THANKYOU for all the advice and help ,it’s very much appreciated
