Single carriageway speed

We are tracked & monitored so its 40 for me, not worth loosing my job. I love watching everyone else trying to kill themselves overtaking on bends etc only for me to catch them up a few miles down the road stuck behind a tractor. Amazes me how people will risk their lives to get in front. I’m often quite chilled out going slower & enjoy the job more. Its not just car drivers who try to kill themselves either, I get a lot of so-called professional drivers trying to do it too.

I am seriously considering upping my 40mph on single carriageways.(If I have a long queue behind me, I do pull into lay-bys to let them past)
Never had so many imbeciles trying to commit suicide before.
I use the A17(Lincs) a lot and it is not just the car drivers, but the bloody lorry drivers too :open_mouth:
I upped to 50mph today and had no hassle at all, infact a whole lot safer…But, technically, I am breaking the law…I really feel it is time something was done about this.

So, my question…How can I do something about it?

It’s very dangerous isn’t it? Imagine when they up the speed limit to 80mph on the motorways for cars? Are they to let us whip the speed limiters off? If you drove before 01/ 01/ 1996 it was a lot safer then! I just couldn’t keep up with paddy! :grimacing: there was a petition by a driver a couple of years back to up the single carriage way limit and if memory serves me correct they were looking into it! Unfortunately the carrot crunchers don’t want motorways in east anglia so it’s your licence and your choice pal! Me personally 50s fine just watch out for fowler welch or jack Richards fakenham division! :open_mouth:

It’s a long way to TIPPERARY :grimacing:

Don’t forget Fresh Linc and Browns, they tend to be in a hurry as well, oh and not forgetting Mason Bros.

Thats funny…Ironically, thats who I am driving for at the mo`
I get loads of time to do the job, paid by the hour, so no need to push on :sunglasses:

They tend to like polishing my number plate and I let them get past as soon as I can.

I assume that you only have 50 minutes in your hours.

The trouble is that the huge queue of cars behind you dont know you’re only allowed to do 40mph. They also have some belief that if you’re slower than they are you have to pull over to let them past. They don’t realise that if you pull over to let them past you will probably lose youre fuel bonus. They don’t realise at lot about us so ■■■■ the lot of them

If they had bothered to read the highway code they could have learnt a lot and been a better driver for it.

We have plates on the back of our trailers stating that 40 is the limit for LGV on single carriageways.

Funny though when they overtake and hit a 30 c/w speed cameras that we end up their arses cos they believe they’re doing 30, more like 25.

Why do some 40mph single carriageway drivers drive illegally at 55 the moment they reach a dual carriageway, how come some speeding is OK but some isn’t.

I don’t travel at 40, people behind get frustrated and those too incompetent to do so end up overtaking badly, there’s more to be a considerate or good driver than sticking rigidly to an outdated law.

It may be outdated but try telling that to my boss. We have no choice but to stick to the 40mph & that doesnt make people bad drivers or less considerate

I live in Sleaford and work for a Lincoln based company, most locals call the bit between Sleaford and Kings Lynn suicide alley, I do 50 down most of that road for the simple fact I find it safer, at 50 I hardly ever get dive bombed by idiots, at 40mph it is constant, and worse the further towards Kings Lynn you get, let the idiots get on with it?? Well sorry not all accidents are involving just the idiot dive bombing you, and I want no part of an accident I might have been able to prevent, ironic as it sounds.

As the a15/17 are my regular daily locals I spent a long time experimenting with my conclusions.

Its strange that i feel quite content doing 55 on a dual carriageway, but get twitchy if i find myself above 40 on a single. I guess its because on a single your more likely to find the fuzz camped out in a layby around the next bend, that said i dont stick to 40 rigidly just there or there abouts (just easier).

On the subject of n/l dual carriageways, i reckon you would be pretty unlucky to get done for doing 5mph over the limit, plus if you cant spot an upcoming camera on such a wide open road your not paying enough attention. You wouldnt lose any sleep over doing 75 in your car on the motorway so whats the difference?

I never overtake over trucks though as it never achieves anything.

I think his question was more about delaying people behind by doing 40 on a single, then flat to the mat on a dual which prevents overtaking.

Personally, I do 40 on a single, upto 50 on a dual (but, if people behind me in a 40 on approach, I really take my time reaching 50 to allow them all past), and around 50 on a motorway.

i agree with you there, i use the 17 weekly, (live in tattershall about 1/2hr from sleaford) some of the worst bit’s are at kirby la thorpe, and the road’s that join the 17, i think the worst one’s are the A1121 (boardside), B1395 from north kime and also the slip’s from heckington aswell. the A17 need’s dueling, as soon as possable.

and it’s not only the king’s lynn - sleaford, the sleaford - newark section need’s it as well

Since one of our biggest teararses became transport planner, colleagues of mine have stopped ■■■■■■■■ about me dawdling at 40-45 (don’t use cc much on scways as I get bored) and instead find it funny that regardless of how much work is on I just plod on and switch phone off. I’ve noticex a few slowing down themselves since said planner took over.

Anyone know the A11 either side of Elveden on the the Suffolk / Norfolk county line. About nine miles of single carriageway with dual carriageways at either end.

If the rozers were brave enough to set up a trap overnight, then the would fill their monthly quota within a few hours. On the plus side there would also be a dramatic increase in the number of driver vacancies in the East Anglia area!

I’m seriously considering upping my speed limit if my Mrs rings and says “I’m naked, laid on the bed and 'king ■■■■■!”.

If it’s my mrs, then I’ll be stuck in low range!

Are they not going to be dualling this? I seem to remember it being mentioned as a project to escape the cuts.

Yes… they’ve already started… and stopped as they’ve already spent this year’s budget on it. It may be a long time before you see the effects of a d/c on this section!

This may not be the case as the majority of vehicles are probably just visiting.

try going up the a9 at 40 during the day and see how many idiots you get trying to commit harry karry

then do 50 up and it and see the difference, its like night and bloody day.
