Simon gibson fh xxl

So much for no money in transport!!!

Volvofh16:
Simon always puts top bar and 6 lights on,anything else ya want he will sort it for ya and let u pay weekly or wheneva but he always let’s u off so much cos believes in it makin his motors look better so attracts more work…He is a good bloke to work for will do anythin for ya,but expects plenty of hard graft in return like any decent boss really.I’m no longer employed by gibbo for my own reasons but wud advise anyone in the area to give him a go if looking for work, you won’t find a much better boss.

Is it all tramping work or do they also have day drivers?

Tbh it’s varied depending on the night work that comes up,he prefers you to be employed with the understanding ur a tramper but sometimes if busy on nights it might work out your nearest so ur motor will get used on nights, the works varied but obvs if ur working out of drax closest to the yard you get more chance to get home.

I see them down here on a sunday so they are getting some utilisation out of them. Don’t they also go over the water ?. Only thing i haven’t done is powder tanks ?. Is it alright or a dirty horrible job ?.

Thanks for the info, might give them a buzz and see what they say, have never done tanker work so that might knock them on the head

Only if you have no pride in yourself or your vehicle

I’ve been on them years . Never go home dirty and my cab ( 58 plate ) , is just as clean inside as the day I got it . The same cannot be said for some other drivers who obviously adopt the DILLIGAF method .

I always carry a spare set of clothes just in case though

dont mean to be picky but according to one of your recent posts you stated that he instructs drivers to not run entirely in accordance with the law regarding tacho regulations

Saw one that looked like that on the M1 tonight, not sure if it was the same one ad I didn’t really take much notice.

I thought Volvo said they wouldn’t sell the XXL cab in europe with the exception of norway.

Isn’t that why Esteppe started doin conversions with Volvo holland approval.

I appreciate that with a powder tanker length would not be an issue but I’m sure it was widely publicised about Volvo policy in the mags at the time of it’s norway release.

Cheers

Doesnt everyone have a lorry like this ■■ Lol

Lovely truck and good to see a driver take a pride in it, altho not to sure how he must of felt when the boss sayed they/Volvo where going to make a short film about it all his mates(and some non mates on here ) prob pulled his leg about it.

Good luck to him hope he has many happy and safe years driving it.

I think it looks the part, matched up to a clean tank, it’s surprising how much difference that extra makes to the bunk width…As for tank work, I like it, same as the guy says previously, I keep my outfit, clean inside and out, always where overalls on top off my firm’s overalls, and wash down every couple of days if time permits… This morning’s been a bit of a ■■■■ up though, 4.30 start, must be there for 6’clock, you all know how it is, out of bed at 3.30, gets to my loading point, obstruction under tank loader, can’t get it moved until 8 o’clock, so it’s on bunk for 2 hr… Ps Fallmonk, like the photo…

My recent comment in a previous topic should of been taken as a light hearted comment, like the others that were posted in jest about 15hr shifts…I would no way condone any illegal activity that isn’t in ‘accordance with the law regarding tacho regulations’ :unamused:

the bed is no bigger, you just have more floor space in the middle and back a bit. that corgi model is an XL not an XXL, you can tell because theres an extra panel where the horsepower number is on the side on the XXL model.

ye know when a manufacturer starts to bling/ tinker with a model to justify its price that its on its way out…dont get me wrong great truck and model but cant help feelin that Simons money should have been spent on a newer model thats about to hit the roads later this year…Scania did the same just b4 launchin the R series… and even now …thats old hat…

2 big trucks to hit the market this year in the UK and thats Mercs Gigaspace and the New Volvo…interesting times ahead

Very good point, but I bet gibbo already has his eye on the new Volvo.

i asked for the FH16-660 i ordered in mid 2008 but was told firmly no chance, would have gone for it just for the crack, but practically it’s not that much more room, like a longline versus a standard scania R cab :sunglasses:

great looking motor  as for new model, stick with the old ones until they’re sorted out in the real world. take the first fh, 18 mths after being launched & slated by the press volvo made the xl. scania 4 series the first ones had the sloping centre consul
& was soon changed. the first actros owners had a nightmare with the electrics & put a lot of people off for a very long time.
let the likes of stobart’s have the first batch so any problems are sorted out with the big fleets.
