Sickness

When we return to work after a bout of sickness were normally taken off our own job , tramping , and put on 1 am starts , days on tesco express show deliveries as punishment for being ill . :unamused:
I just wordered what punishment do other companies apply after sick leave . Ta

None, our place treat drivers like adults who unfortunately had to have time off for an illness and have returned once they’re well enough and go back on their usual job.

Do your place also make you stand in the corner with your finger on your lips while they sort out your punishment run?

is it a permanent thing or short term, like for long enough to get through whats already been scheduled, and to get you to the next scheduling period and back on your usual run?

And wear the dunces cap as well?

No punishment here, which unfortunately plays right into the regular sicky mob’s hands.

Same as my place then.

If I was tramping.
If the took me off tramping and put me on 1am start days I’d tell them to stick there job up there arse.
Unless a good reason like I was off Monday and Tuesday. Went in on Wedensday and all they had for rest of week was what sounds like the crap agency shifts they had left.
I could live with few days.

Just a Green uniform

Do you bring your own lube, or is that part of your uniform allocation?

Now I know your winding us up, If your not get outta there asap. No decent firm would take a tramper off his normal work and punish em like this.

That’s the whole point, it aint a ‘decent firm’ …it’s Stobarts

My place have been brilliant, told me I can have upto 26 weeks off with full pay then a further 26 weeks @ half pay, this is my first time off in 8 years, not even a single day…it does pay not to take the pee when it comes to company sick pay.
I’ll be going back as soon as I can though, they have been fantastic with me I won’t be taking unnecessary advantage of their generosity hopefully be able to go back after 14-18 weeks off when my wife is ok to be on her own and able to drive our son to school.

My boss has been good with me so far not pushed me to go back although would like me back soon as will be going back to same when fully sorted poss heading back next week with another driver for the day see how it goes will slowly be going back over the course of a few weeks just to get back into it & make sure my foot can hold up to it all

You’ve just said it all, your firm treats you like a grown up and with decency, and you clearly have no intention of taking the ■■■■, but treat and consider them with the same respect they have shown you, I also have worked for that type of co. in the past and it makes a whole world of difference to your attitude.
That is where a lot of firms fall down, they can not see that treating drivers like somewhere between kids and ■■■■ is counter productive, and just builds contempt until a ‘Them and us’ situation occurs rather than a ‘Team co’
That is why I am completely mercenary towards my lot, no loyalty or allegiance whatsoever, it’s just a job/ means to an end.
The depot I work for are not bad after saying that, but all rules and decisions on pay etc are made at the main head depot, if I had to work there I would be jacking in the first day the way that they treat and speak to their drivers.

I’ve never heard of that. I was of for a week sick and and just came back to work as normal. I think dozy is a fantasist.

Yeah, Stobarts…

In my last job (not transport) I was senior management. My boss (company owner) broke his leg and was stuck over in Ireland. I took over running the entire company for six months.

The following year, again in Ireland, he had another fall, and was out of action for 8 months. Again, I stepped up and ran the company, only bothering him with major problems or serious expenditure issues.

Two years later I broke my leg in 5 places, had 2 plates and 23 screws put in, which my body didn’t like at all, and I got infected. 2 more hospital stints and a total of 7 months off.

The day I started back, I got made redundant. Charming.

Obviously a tough business decision, and nothing to do with the fact that his daughter had just been turned down for residency in Australia, and therefore needed a job pretty pronto.

Lo and behold, the highest paid non-family member suddenly became surplus to requirements.

Let’s just say if he spontaneously combusted, I would relieve myself in a bush (or up a tyre)
