Sick and tired of saving motorists from their own stupidity

M40 last night down to one lane and I’m in a line of vehicles in lane one doing just under 50mph. Suddenly, headlights appear in my nearside mirror and some idiot is using the hard shoulder to overtake me. Unfortunately there’s a stationary vehicle on the HS ahead. I had to brake to create a safe space for them to go into, avoiding a collision with the stationary vehicle.
Worse thing was, they didn’t learn. Once past the blockage they went back onto the HS to continue overtaking!
I was left wondering how important their journey was that they needed to put so many other people at risk with such a stupid stunt.

have a look at Jeremy Kyle on a morning - the stupidity of some of these people is beyond anything you could imagine. We are actually starting to make Americans look like intelligent forms of life.

i began my driving life in 1963 and i can assure you that the idiots have always been around , more traffic these days , more idiots .

I know you thought you were being a good old chap by breaking to allow the stupidity continue to under take but you’ve just allowed them to continue being stupid.
If stupid wants to continue there’s only one way for them to learn …

DON’T allow them …

So we can now lay another drivers continued stupidity on you :open_mouth:

Darwinism in action?
It did cross my mind, I’ll be honest. But my thoughts were about the stationary vehicle. What if there was someone in or near it. Innocent victims who I could protect with a straightforward maneuver.

My instructor always used to say “It’s THEIR risk” and while I know he he was right, the trouble is I instinctively drive defensively and can’t help trying to make things safer…

That’s the proBlemish someone’ see’s a gap you left cuts in causing you to rear end them because of numb nuts you can be sure ALL the brown stuff is gonna fall on you

Funny old thing, when you see numpties like this going about their normal mayhem its never ever a 50 ton mobile crane or a loaded artic that going to be their Darwin moment of exit glory, its always some poor innocent bugger or family in a small car who’s going to be the victim of said numpties if someone else doesn’t take preventative evasive action.

As we often say, far too few proper coppers about, to give 'em an ear bending, hold their gallop for a half an hour whilst said copper MOT’s their vehicle by the roadside, and then issues a juicy expensive summons of faults and driving offences found just to put the icing on the cake…couple of times that happening they’ll soon learn to drive proper like.

The only way that’s ever going to happen is if you stick them all on an island and throw them some raw meat and some lego!!

One of our drivers came down the M6 on Friday evening and decided he was far too important to crawl along in queueing traffic so used the hard shoulder, the copper that pulled him didn’t seem to think he was anything special and promptly gave him a rather eye-watering fine. The funniest bit is that our driver only does two local round trips averaging about 4 hours driving s night and is paid a salary!

Saying that I do enjoy when the motorway is down to one lane at night and that one driver just has to try and beat you, many a cone has been clipped in their pursuit to be in front.

Problem with that is that now adays you find the same idiot has his camera phone out when pulled over and gives it the big un to the cops about knowing his rights etc and generally being an arrogant prick and then go running to the media and give it “have the police not got better things to do,I wasnt doing anything wrong” blah blah blah

To reassure you, last idiot I found trying the hard shoulder short cut found out how much it cost to his wallets expense. £100 for hard shoulder driving, £300 for No Insurance, 6 points, vehicle towed away costing just over £200 for removal and storage, and 2 return train tickets back to London. Total cost to him, about £800. and for everything else there’s MasterCard!!

Fair play to you. Now all you need to do is convince the pointy headed fast track graduates that Lord it over you that you are an important and cost effective deterrent and maybe, just maybe we’ll see more marked cars on the road slicing through the increasing numbers of these arrogant idiots who think that THEY are the most important driver in the universe.

Sadly there is a faction that will never learn and nothing anyone does will make a difference. You would have thought by now, especially with the aid of Bluetooth, you wouldn’t still see people on mobile phones. But you do! :open_mouth:

As for Traffic Rat’s example of “how to be a bellend” Is there really any hope for people that drive with no insurance, and then draw attention to themselves by driving in the hard shoulder? :unamused:

Thing is we all know they are as thick as ■■■■ end of.
Are you really advocating to let them actually kill themselves :open_mouth:
I remember when I was 17 I was a complete d/ head driving and I knew no fear, some of the bloody stupid things I done it’ s a wonder I am here to write this. Most kids, young lads full of testerone and bravado are the same. At the other end there are those too bloody old to be driving, but if I see them doing something stupid I sure as hell aint going to watch them injure or kill themseves if preventable.
It’s an example of what ( is supposed to) seperates us as professionals from other road users :bulb: .
