I was threatened with a disciplinary years ago because I wouldn’t collect about £2000 IN CASH as I was tipping the last load of stone into a farm. I refused because I didn’t want the blame for stealing any notes if the cash was wrong, and the fact I was due to collect a load of muck from East Oxford on the way back I reckoned it was a bit risky to have that much cash in the cab in an area known for Leroy and Winston helping themselves…
So how long will it be before drivers start doing just as they like and want £1000 a week for the privilige?
and if not we will ROB you blind

If I had been on £1000 a wee I wouldn’t have been ■■■■■■■■ here about £25!
BTW: I have never robbed any employee, and I wouldn’t consider robbing this one even though I think that they are robbing me in some respects.
Mick, not again
I’m behind you al the way mate, stick to your principles, bending over and taking it is not an option in my book, the fact that far too many do take it makes it harder to do the right thing, but that’s the way it is
mickfly:
I’ve been at this company since October and we get an ‘attendance allowance’ of £25 a week which helps make up the low hourly rate, but many drivers said they have had it taken off them for not getting paperwork signed etc.I said “the first time they take it off me I’m gone”… so today I had to give my notice.
I forgot to collect a cheque from a customer for £124, it was collected the day after by another driver, but I still lost my ‘bonus’, because that’s how much some companies think their drivers are worth.
It would be nice to think that some of the other drivers would have stood up to them, but no, just me, so once again, my principles have cost me.
The transport manager walked last week and three drivers have gone since I’ve been there, so maybe I’m being unfair, and others have stood up to them and had to leave.
What would you lot do?
wheres the job, money etc,im looking for a job, it might suit me, or somebody, can you post the details up,ta
Ady, you got the boot from Eddie or you’re leaving voluntarily? Post where you are from in your Sig and that you’re looking and people can post ideas or leads, got some great tips for tramping on the South East Coast, nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

The jobs in Bradford, £7.50 an hour, driving old Scannis, with very scruffy trailers (I told my missus on the first day that they were ‘tuggers’ and got pulled by VOSA on day 2). Trackers on board, watched like hawks, if there’s no work you sit in the yard for 8 hrs, and there’s no job and knock if they give you a short run.
Easy loads, no back loads and nice challenging places to go to. Nights out (if the regular boys don’t want to do them) at £20, but if you forget to put the paperwork in by Friday I’m told they won’t pay you AT ALL for the night out! Supposedly 14 hrs a day in the busy season, so good earning potential.
Seems you were hard done by Mick, a warning or something would have been better for a first offence. I will say though that at my place, its only a small firm, they are having awful trouble getting paid at the moment. The slightest thing like an squiggle for a signature and no printed name has lost them payment on a couple of occasions. We get a 30 euro bonus per week for correct paperwork and get it docked if its not correct. I often get containers that have to have cash collected before its tipped. I hate them, i like to get on with unloading staff as a good relationship can make unloading go much quicker, but demanding cash before you open the doors can cause bad blood straight away. I get bonus for paperwork but nothing for collecting cash. I dont think id leave over it though. Jobs are hard to come by at the mo

I understand the need for collecting cheques, even though you’re quite right it causes bad blood, BUT, they got the cheque teh day after.
Always makes me laugh that if the owners are that desparate for £124 they don’t park up their Bentleys and come to the office in one of their smaller cars, or sell the yacht, villa etc if times are that friggin hard, instead they pop us for £25!
Yes I was too quick to walk, but although I accept every job I am asked to do, and (believe it or not) don’t really complain at work, I am a bit bolshie, and can’t bear to be shafted.
The other week I had to pay £300 on my own debit card for fuel down south because their card was refused! I got the money back 2 days later, but I wonder if anyone in the office got ‘fined’ £25 for that possibly very expensive muck up?
One driver had to pay for a mechanic call out recently when his trailer brake had over heated… he pulled onto the shoulder due to teh smoke, but by the time a fitter arrived it had cooled down so he could continue… he had to foot the friggin bill for that!
Crap company, but a good job. Seems like the story of my life these past two years.
Still.
One door shuts, and another one…slams in your face LOL.
Who the ■■■■■ pays by Cheque ffs? What’s up with BACS, there is no reason why you should need to be messed around like this, IMHO.
£7.50 p/h for that much grief, I’m surprised your still there.
You paid for fuel yourself and had to wait for it back, errrrr and to thank you they do this to you. What would have happened if you didn’t have a CC?
I’d say, if you wanna play like that, fine. Next time your fuel card gets refused I’m just gonna sit and wait for YOU to sort it.

Reason I was still there at 7.50 is that they are one of the only local firms that pay time and a half after 8, and with the £25 bonus it made it £8.00 an hour for the first 40 hrs.
You’re right about the fuel…the other option was for someone to drive 200 miles to the garage and pay it themselves as they wouldn’t accept payment over the phone, so if I had wanted to be a ■■■■ I could have got paid for sitting in the garage waiting.
They also pay night out money seperate and I have just checked my bank statement… not paid for night out and parking last week yet.

And you’re still there? WTF. Is there a severe job shortage in Bradford?
What do they say about us Yorkies (guessing you’re a Yorkie as well),
Yorkshire Born, Yorkshire Bred, Strong in’t arm and thick in’t head

No, I gave my notice on Friday, so working my last week for them, but your Yorkshireman quote is quite right mate LOL, and yes I am a stubborn Yorkie.
There is a shortage of GOOD paying jobs in Bradford as all the industry has dissapeared, and it seems to be like many places now, ie agency work only, or dead mans shoes.

Nowt wrong with Agency work, as long as it’s regular. It’s pretty quiet down ere at the moment.
I’m having a ‘break’ from my 1 night a week (that’s all I’ve had for 3 weeks) £12 p/h night job for 5 days of white van man work for £7.50 p/h. Class 1 pays around a Tenner p/h down ere, but I don’t ‘do’ earlies.
Anyway, good luck

Isn’t that an oxymoron?

I’ve done a fair bit of agency work, so I will be ringing some up during next week. I did have an agency night run last year paying £10 an hour with no overtime premium, down from £13. The same agency were paying £10 for Sundays as well when I left which had come down from £18 to £13, then to £10, still plenty of drivers willing to do the Sundays though, even though they had previously done it at the higher rates.
That particular job, like many, went from 5 full nights to an odd night as they signed up more drivers and shared the work out.
Careful mate, you might get used to the white van work.

Who are you calling a Moron? lol
To be honest, it was busy as hell a few months ago, they had drivers from Kent and London up here staying a a local Hotel for nowt. Christmas and then the sales, but this quietness is unheard off by the permanent staff and the agency.

For that kind of money I’d be tempted but I like nights, always have.
Sunday is £14 p/h down ere, one Friday I was practically told to name my price, I couldn’t work cos I was taking my Daughter to Hospital early the next day so I’d booked it off. I’d have got £14 p/h easy, cos they really needed an ADR driver.
I might consider doing the ADR course if it will up my chances of decent pay.
