helps make up the low hourly rate,

If they pay a ‘low’ hourly rate, you were daft to work for them in the first place :exclamation:

xamtex:
ive been running a trailer load of stuff into a courier company recently that have a sign on the noitice board…
it reads.
ANY DRIVER NOT SUBMITTING CORRECT PAPERWORK WILL BE FINED £25!!!
i wonder how much duff paperwork they get now■■?

If they stuck that on the wall when i was there i would deliberately hand some in that was wrong  it’s totally illegal :exclamation: And who would work for fascist ■■■■ ■■■■■■■■ that think like that anyway :bulb:

With the ‘bonus’ it added 50p per hour onto the 40 hr rate, and in summer we would be expected to (and quite willing to) work 14 hr days paid at time and a half, so, potentially good earnings, even for long hours.

Although I did run down to Bristol on a Sunday PM for them so I could tip at 8am Monday, but was only paid 4 and a half hours at time and a half.

Yes, I would take it on the chin…There is always a solution to a problem!

Make no wonder the countrys on its arse do the job correctly get you bonus. do it incorrectly lose your bonus, never mind just ROB a few hours.

SuffolkLad:
When I was at Tuffnells back in 08, the weekly wage was (C1 Multidrop) £50 per day plus £10 attendance bonus and £10 performance bonus, total of £350 week. The performance bonus could be lost for bringing back over a certain percentage of your drops per day, and the attendance bonus could be lost for being more than 5mins late. Whwn I used to query that the daily wage on its own was less than NMW for the hours I was working, the line “No its not, you forgot to add on your bonus, its part of your wage” would be trotted out. But be late in, or have a crap day and bring too much back, and suddenly it wasn’t part of your wage, and they could take it away if they wanted.
On a side note, has anyone else worked at Tuffnells? Just wondering what the deal was with their C&D Mobility Allowance? Always seemed a bit dodgy to me, gross £350 in a week, take home £320 with the dodgy allowance.

they only can take it away till down to the nmw. going further down,well,118118 gets you all numbers you need, even rail time table

I think you did the right thing and would have done the same myself. There is always other jobs so you don’t need to bend over and take crap like that.

Here, here, too many drivers take it on the chin. Getting another job before handing your notice in might have been a good idea though…

I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, they will have your pants down if you let them.

Give them and inch or two sure but don’t let them take a mile.

we dont loose money if our paper works wrong we make more money
if we come back ,hand our p.o.d,s in and there not in correct order to run sheet,we then have to go and sort them out so they are in the correct order,it can be a right zb , its taken me 2 hrs somedays to get them in the correct order, turned a 13 hr day in too a 15 hr day

My job = lorry driver
I do that correctly, no bumps, economic driver, punctual at work, punctual at customer, no complaints about what, when or where I am sent.

My job = Collecting cheques?
Don’t mind, but should not be penalised £25 for forgetting to collect £124.

I think he did the right thing.
Too many drivers take it up the arris these days, that makes it harder for drivers with integrity.
Also sad to see many others suggesting that they would extend their hours to get this back, lack of integrity once again.

All too often I see this happening, it brings lack of trust to the industry and then everyone gets treated the same, but those of us who have integrity feel an injustice is done, often before we even turn a wheel :frowning:

The final week of my job, found me finding out there were bonuss for keeping your motor clean and scratch free....These bonuss were quite good, but no one told me about them 18 months ago :unamused:

I am also finding that if you ask too many questions on the phone about prospective employment, it puts potential employers off :imp: Seems the majority want ignorant and easily manipulated employees…Don`t they realise that an employee with a brain will actually save them money in the long-run and become an asset for the company?

This industry is still, to a certain degree, run by dinosaurs, for dinosaurs…I give up, I really do.

I don’t see any point in hanging the job out for extra hours, and I am pretty honest anyway.
I am seriously considering giving up as well mate.

The company also sent us all letters threatening the sack if any diesel went missing, as they said there was a 7 grand discrepancy, BUT, even when I told them that the chances of diesel going missing from my big 300ltr twin tanks was pretty high, as they didn’t have locking caps, they still wouldn’t buy any for me to put on!

Mickfly were you told about collecting cheques at your interview? and told if you dont collect a cheque you lose your bonus, and have you collected them from day one? if you were whats your problem? if not its too late now but i would have have asked for clarification of what the £25 per week was for.

Yes, I was told that “the ■■■■■ upstairs " will pull your bonus for the least little thing… " She really ■■■■■■ people off!”

Are you saying it’s fair (as long as I was told about it)… even though no such financial penalties exist for staff other than the drivers?

The cheque was collected the day after by another lad, and they were never likely to LOSE the £124, it was only delayed, but she still deducted the ‘attendance allowance’ without telling me.

mickfly:
Never claimed any benefits in my life mate, and hopefully I won’t start now.

So you have never got any tax credits of any kind or child benefit for your kids?

Even if he has claimed tax credits, he’s paid into the system through taxes, what’s the problem?

Child benefits for one kid, (never got tax credits) and that is it. WTF was the point you were trying to make? You know I meant the dole!

Next time you have to collect a cheque ask them to make it out to Charles Arthur Smith Haulage, or just use the initials as it will be quicker and fit on the payee line easier.

Bingo, you’ve got your bonus.

I would’ve done the same. Too many people let themselves get walked over!

Love it!

Maybe you should have just called it a pound a litre and taken 25L from your tank.
