And do you think if a bulgarian haulage company rang my boss and said “by the way i have just undercut your rates on the paris job but we are not to sure of the route could you help”? what do you think he would say??
Good Point.

OK. I will put my opinion here.
Long time effects - you may be right, but you may be not. It’s already shortage of drivers in Poland, so wages are going up and many of drivers are going back to work there. So i think in couple of years (maybe ten, maybe more) wages will be less or more similar, and that will be no longer as good thing to go for work to different country. So I think at the long time effect, you should not be affraid about Poles. They may be new countris joining EU, but they have not so easy to work here (see bulgarians and romanians)…
Apart of everything: some time ago all people from ireland were going here to work, and now that’s Ireland, where is good to work. Will be soon the same with most East Europenian countries.
That about long time effect.
As for short term effect propably will be that your boss will next time give job to eastern europeans, as They are happy on this wages what he’s offering, and on the top of that they helping each other. So you are not helping british wannabes as well - had you considered that?
Btw: I fully understand your point, as I lost really good job in UK (international courier driving on 7.5 tonners paid better than class two) as company choosed to use romanian subcontracotrs with their own lorries. But I think that I cannot blame this particular romanians, that they are trying to earn for their live.
And something on me:
I am not trying to put wages down, becouse I don’t think that it’s fair to pay me less only becouse I am Polish. I hope to get work not becouse I am cheaper, but becouse I am better.
One time one guy wanted me to do early morning deliveries with lot of handball and he offered 6. I asked him, if he is running out of his medicines or something. He told me that should be happy, as in Poland I will not get this money. But I told him: now I am in Scotland, so why I can’t get scottish money? I think is not only not fair for british drivers, when I will put dumping prices, but it’s only bad for me - why I shall work for 6 if I can earn 8?
Off course I haven’t take this job (my agency was paying me 7 by this time) and soon I saw his advert in job centre: 7.25…

Ohhh thats ok then, i will just live on ■■■■ wages for the next ten years until the blockies decide they want to go home, never mind the fact my wages already dont rise with inflation. Yet i have to pay more and more tax every year to cover the extra expenses having all these extra bodies in the country eg extra schooling, hospitals etc.
Do not worry daleyboy, I can not see it as 10 years, when I came back to the UK 2 years ago we had a circle of 32 Polish friends, half of them have gone home now and out of the rest only 4 think they will stay in the UK. Even the nice Polish lady who works in our local Curries store is going home. The pound is devalued and wages are rising in Poland, so the difference is money is getting smaller, so I would think most will go back to a country with better food, better people, who would choose to stay in this backward thinking and rather nasty little county with is whining little people.
Should you choose to do the same in Poland one day, you can be assured of a warmer response from the Poles, then you give them here in the UK, all you have to do is learn to work hard and drive in snow and on ice. I am saying this in a joking manner some of you may get, but Queen Victoria has died, you have to let go.

And then the ukrainians will come over the border and drive your wages down. Wonder how you will feel then??
Dont bother answering i have worked in poland and know how you feel about them and the russians.
Better food? If you like offal maybe.
Work hard ■■ I remember sitting in customs for days while the lazy gits drink there foul coffee doing sod all.
Learn to drive on snow and ice?? Why have your lot finally cracked it?Most of the posts on here (if you bother to read them) have been aimed at bosses and politicians and the political situation in general, why make it personal??

Er… Russians■■? How do I feel about Russians■■?
Offal, not heard of this, sounds like a kebab you eat when you have drunk too much.
Ukraine ain’t on the Danish border.
They do work hard, its in their work ethic
Its true my lot have not cracked driving in snow and ice, they are hopeless at it, it laughable their attempts, they are not any better in normal road conditions. I will give you that one Turnip, my nation cannot drive for toffee.
Currently I have shell suited little people shouting and causing a fair amount of chaos, this could get a long list, so I will not bother to go on, in a few months then that will change for a country with nice people, beautiful country side, Tatra mountians 2 hours away, Krakow one hour away, great food and drink, the list is longer than the crap list for for this country, so thats a big list.
Next time you go to Poland open your eyes, it ain’t England granted, but thats no bad thing

Cheerio.
Believe it or not i like poland and the people.
And i am also a realist where england is concerned. Most industrial areas of this country are horrible and the people?? Well lets just say i am not over keen on a lot of em either.
But none of this has anything to do with what i was trying to get across. Sounds like you are home sick me old china. Best you get gone and when you get home and tell everyone how terrible the uk is , i for one will be grateful.
drew128:

You seen me !
I am not from Old China, I am English, was born here and back here for a couple of years and as I am paying UK tax I reseve the right to be miserable and disappointed. I have been helping a little bit, I have managed to stop 10 Poles coming here to work in the UK, one did disbelieve me and came, lasted 3 weeks and went home.
I landed back in the UK 2 years ago after living in Denmark for a number of years and it was a shock to see what has happened here. It mattered not that my wife was my wife, no sir, she is Polish welcome, the queue for minimium wage is over there. The second day we were here, she was approached in the job centre my an English gent, who asked if she was Polish and said we only use Polish, the English are too lazy, I was stunded WTF is that about, the next day took her to a restaurant for an interview and that was done in Polish, jaw drops again. I had no idea if she got the job until she told me.
I am not a fan of the uncontrolled way people arrive and get work, I can tell you my residence permit for Poland was a lot hard to obtain, but that’s not your fault, nor mine or the people coming, but its part of the reason I will not stay here in a country that operates and treats its people in such a way, no, after a month here we made our plans to leave and thankfully the place we choose is as perfect as we can make it.
Mike C, if you are not a very ugly woman in a shell suit then I do not think it was you, unless you wish to tell us all something.

Good riddance.
Do you need a hand packing up?
All you need to do now, is convince 1.5 million of your new found countrymen to ■■■■ off back to Poland and hand in their Child Benefit book before they depart.
Thanks [zb], but I can pack my own bag, anyway my missus would not allow anyone like you near the house.
I will always try to point out the cons to coming to England to a Pole, always, so I can help you with that at least, the rest of your problems I cannot help you with.

talking to a chap at a r.d.c and he said his wages had dropped from 800 pounds a week too 650 pounds a week since the poles had arrived![]()
Thats the funniest thing ive heard all week
I bet he said he was on the Herald of Free Enterprise too
Can I ask why no one shouting on drew128 that he’s going to Poland to put our wages down and to rip my country from benefits? Thanks to people like him there will be less work opportunities in Poland, so maybe even more Poles will come here, as the best workplaces in Poland will be occuped by english folks
Thats right Orys, I am going to take Poland for all the cabbage it has.
See: if poles are coming here to steal the jobs and ripping taxpayers on free health service etc that’s the worst thing ever and you hate them.
But when english people are going to do the same in Poland, they can even count on their countrymates to get help with packing.
If someone doing something to britain it’s wrong, but if british people are doing the same to them - thats OK.

You think that you are on position to tell that? So I am on position to tell “Britain is welcoming hundred thousends of people from east europe”.
Much as this is an emotive subject, if it starts to descend into playground insult-slinging of the variety I just removed, it will be locked without further warning or explanation.
