Yeah ok maybe the eastern European drivers ARE keeping our wages from going up. But if you don’t like the wages then find another job where you do like them.
I will help another driver if he needs help, because I’d like to think If I ever needed their help they might return the favour some day.
If another driver in my companies colours is making a hash of things because nobody gave him the time of day then that also makes ME look bad because its the same name on the side of the truck.
Lets be honest, drivers are opinionated, if you see 3 or 4 “Joe Bloggs Ltd” drivers being total arses you’d probably give the next Joe Bloggs Ltd truck a wide berth, when the guy driving that one might be ok.
flippin hell you couldve have given the bloke a chance at least, see what hes like as a person before ignorantly refusing to help, if he was a pinhead then fair enough but he’s probably just a normal bloke trying to make a better living for his family.

Three agencies calling me up this week offering me work, choice of shifts, choice of work.
Maxing out my hours most days, making over £10 p/h. Getting calls tonight can you work, and i’m knocking them back and thats me living in a unemployment blackspot with so many Brits on the dole who can’t find work but someone can travel across Europe get a job and contary to popular opinon working for a decent wage in the places ive worked rather than the crap wages people think they earn.
To be honest some people are just pricks, always moaning or complaining about somthing.
I’m an agency driver, takes the heat off us from stealing peoples jobs for a change. Even tho still get that some places i go. Full time drivers on very good wages. Get the pick of the best runs, one or two drops which realistically could be done in about 8hrs but are dragged out to 12 hours.
Yet as the agency driver, i get a hell of a lot less pay and get hit with all the crappy local deliveries so am i in and out the depot 4 or 5 times a night. Company is desperate for drivers is recruiting, but can’t get enough drivers so have to get agency drivers in, yet we are still trying to steal their jobs lol
I go ask some full timers directions to a place and told sorry mate don’t have a clue, even tho they know fine where it is done it a milion times. Yet i bet these same guys would moan the jobs changed not as friendly, people don’t help each other etc…
So suppose in someways its good cause takes the heat off us the immigrants are the new agency drivers

In my driving career i have been asked to help other drivers many times. You know the score , new driver give him directions . tell him what’s expected at certain drops or how to secure a load etc. And i was helped by older hands when i first started, in many cases this is the only training there is in the ridiculous world of transport.
However where i in the past have allways been only too happy to help (and gently take the p***) . My boss is now starting to replace leaving drivers with eastern europeans. He asked me this morning to help a new czech guy with directions etc, to which i replied no. I am now being labelled unhelpful and obstructive. My view is why should i help people that are keeping my wages lower than what i could expect to earn were they not here??
After 10 years with the same boss i am now thinking of leaving, i think this is sad because i quite like the job. But it seems bosses are putting profits first AS USUAL.
I would help anyone regardless of race. Do you really think its unfair for a boss to try and make a profit? Can really honestly blame eastern europeans for the money we do or dont earn i work with several polish workers they all seam honest hard working blokes to me . If i had to go to poland to earn enough money for my family to live on then i would wouldnt you?
General haulage is finished, the tankers and car transporters are about the only jobs left that havent been ruined wage wise…YET.
Why do you think the job improved so much wage wise for many of us since the mid eighties? Sorry i forgot it was the charitable bosses, jeez you’ll be having us doffing our caps at this rate.
Listen to the views aired here, not a hope in hell that our lot will ever improve whilst people are prepared to give all their learning away for free to someone who will then teach all his mates., and then replace you.

YOU and people like you are giving the english a bad name with your ignorant, sod you jack im alright attitude, and plain and simple downright racist.
we’ve been getting the poles in ireland for a long time now, and while it is sad to see all the employers going down that road of hiring cheaper labour, its down to the unions to sort it out and make sure that a good wage is preserved.
i would happily direct anyone, provided they asked me nicely, or if they couldnt speak english, at least had a good demeanour about them.
i hope for your sake you never have to go abroad for work and become a victim to such racism.

They want the extra potential members, maybe the union top dogs index linked pension scheme is getting a bit low or something, but they actually encourage the comrades to come here…unbelievable.

your the one working for £6.80 an hour not me mate, think your the one using your cloth cap to polish the bosses new merc.
what you doing to get a decent wage ■■? not giving a foreign driver directions, wow thats going to change the world, thats gonna improve working conditions no end, boss is going to have to give him directions or give him a map.
you could vote with your feet get another job, or work with the people already working there get them to demand better wages. the easterns are here to stay you wither work with them so everyone gets better wages or you act like a child and create divisions at work so no one wins apart from the boss.

Well as beattun said why not just give him directions. He’ll probably forget most of what you tell him anyway. I’m as guilty as the next man for complaining about poles and whatever else but at the end of the day i still say hello, smile and even wave back on the road.

You are being unhelpful and obstructive. Its the czech guys right to come here and do a job, he’s probably been told we are screaming out for workers and thinks he is helping himself and helping us at the same time. I’m one of the biggest critics of open migration into this country. This does not stop me being human and treated others as human too !!! I understand your frustration and agree with your view but you are taking it out on the wrong person. There is a political party that promises to not only stop that but reverse it all as well !! Support them at the ballot box if you feel so strongly over it. Seems daft to loose your job over it?

Yes i agree , usually egged on by our wonderful mp’s. Most went to the same public schools, along with our friends the bosses. Draw your own conclusions.
