1950’s hawker hunter crashes onto traffic on the A27.
seven dead so far-those poor buggers killed in their cars.one was a Daimler limo -hope it wasn’t a wedding car…
Rip to those poor people and could still rise further always ques along there going towards the island I guess it was near the layby
The Hunter was always a piece of junk like the Vampire. But the CAA allows them to fly but not designs like the Phantom.
I was there when this happened.
Can see it from my back window. The house is near the end of the runway.
.
Not jumping to any conclusions about the cause of this particular tragic accident, it is on film anyway, but an ex WW2 torpedo bomber friend of mine (now deceased) who attended most airshows was of the opinion that in some cases these pilots flying historic aircraft attempt manouveres that were difficult to perform even when the aircraft were new.
Pete.

Is there anything at all you don’t proclaim to be an expert in?

Is that burning object in the air just debris, or the pilot ejecting? The canopy looks up in the photo.
Carryfast, shut up. The CAA don’t need your “expert” ANALogy. They don’t think Thatcher was to blame.

Strange how there Are hundreds of hunters still flying without incident.

I wouldn’t say the Hunter was a piece of junk.
Many Airforces including the Swiss were still flying them into the 90’s.
The British ones all went back and were completely overhauled back to zero hours in the early 70’s
I think the reasons we don’t see F4’s on the circuit will be the same reason we don’t see Harriers and Tornado’s is that they are a much more complex aircraft to maintain and fly.
Plus cost look how much it took to get the Vulcan back to flying status.

They shouldn’t be attempting manouvers the aircraft can’t complete and they aren’t qualified to fly.
Each pilot and aircraft should be rated and hey submit a routine which they must fly to.
They are then signed off by a senior pilot* and each airshow has a safety commitee who watches that he doesn’t depart from it.
It’s not unusual for a pilot who departs from his routine to be ordered to cut short his diplay and land if the commitee think he has overstepped the mark.
Reports say he’s an ex harrier pilot so should have plenty of hours in jets.
*IIRC Normally in the RAF it’s an officer two ranks above the pilot.
Even the Red Arrows have to be signed off

I now await a 15 paragraph reply with links to prove you are wrong and why it’s all the fault of the unions and Thatcher.
When what we should be talking about is how fragile life can be, one moment people were going about their own business the next minute all hell breaks loose and people lives are over or changed dramatically even if they weren’t directly involved.
R.I.P. To all those involved, sad news, especially when it happens to be a show
Doesn’t take long for the TNCSI SQUAD To get in on it
One was a wedding car I understand. A terribly sad British Summers day
How on earth has the pilot survived that crash?

I read a tweet from a coach company saying a couple of their coaches had got through the junction just before it happened, it could have been so much worse.

Is that confirmed? I can only think he must of ejected from the aircraft.

He’s in hospital fighting for his life
Yep-just confirmed. Critical condition. If you watch the footage of the actual impact, it appeared that just as he was level (coming out of the loop), he was trying to bank left to catch the airfield and avoid the road.
Tragic day.
