I have just learned that both driver trainers from a hauliers site (I wont name anyone) agree that drivers should record 1 minute of rest before ejecting their card at the end of the shift. I am rarely shocked but this one has been one of those rare occasions. I thought every driver knew that any shift should start and end with a manual entry showing crossed hammers. There is no exception for this that I can think of
the end of my shift is as soon as i take the card out job done

+1 When parking up at night in the week i always show a few mins cross hammers then a min break before i take my card out then on a fri when back do all my duties on cross hammers then a min break before card out and go home job done!!!
Nothing wrong with it whatsoever!!!
I have ejecting with it on other work and doing a manual entry for rest next shift. I thought this was correct?! I have never been pulled up on it or questioned by my employer. In fact i thought this was the correct way to do it
All my shifts end on break just before I eject the card because thats whats happening.
The problem is that handing the keys in etc is work so you are technically working off the card therefore you cant end a shift or start a shift on break. Your tacho should match your time sheets exactly. For example, say you eject your card at 1709 and 1715. The next time you put your card in, you should manual entry from 1709 to 1715 to cover handing keys in etc. Then your rest and crossed hammers from start of shift to putting your tacho in. I did this on an assessment a while back and the assessor said he had never seen an agency driver do that. I told him that I manual entry every shift to match my time sheet. Every minute of duty should be recorded
Ah well I don’t hand the keys in or collect paperwork so the only manual entry I do is the rest from between shifts and when I get back in I leave the card in until all paperwork etc is done and dusted and I have my car keys in hand…emptying the cab of personal possessions is on my time.
its all ■■■■■■■■ lol

My card goes in the hole and i start driving, i turn the engine off at the end of the day and the card gets ejected and thats it
Company where I’m at say we have to make a manual entry for the hours we’re putting down we worked on the timesheet so if I pulled the card at 04:22 this morning and put down I finished at 04:30 on the timesheet, which is about right once keys are handed in, when I start tonight I have to put in a manual “work” entry to cover 04:22-04:30.
I’ve always switched tacho onto rest before ejecting card because that’s what i’m doing.
I think worrying about handing keys in on rest is taking it to extremes, I have a 5 minute walk to car park, should that be work as well??

My tacho never matches my time sheet. If I finish early I go home but I’m paid til the end of my shift which is what my time sheet shows.

Your tacho should be an accurate record of work done, it doesn’t have to match your time sheet.

Don’t have a time sheet, 2 work books.
Keys stay with me.
I park up, engine off, gather my things from the cab and eject the card. So it’s always got about 2 mins of other work before ejected. As soon as the card is out,I’ve finished work. I keep the keys, no paperwork to hand in.
Same on a morning. Park the car, walk 10 paces to truck, card in. Start work. No manual entry unless I’ve got to do something before getting into the lorry, which is very rare.
f…k glad im back on log books and finished with all that european b…ox
I like the fact the OP seemed to ■■■■ the bed over this.

No because I stick to the letter of the law and I only work for clients who are compliant however, falsifying a tachograph is an offence which can carry a custodial sentence. Working off the card is falsification and I cant afford ANY brushes with the law.
I only know 1 other driver who is as strict on this as I am but there is a lot at stake
