I think they should ban toenail clipping at work, especially in a shared cab. I prefer wet cig ends on the floor to fungus nails
In lots of ways, I think Big Vern is almost as small-minded as Rob K.

When you prob get your eye blacked or and a nice big red nose for grassing on someone you will prob no why. make no wonder this contry is up the spout with moaning beely aching folk what are more worried what someone else is doing, if i was ur night man i would smoke 20 cigars and 20 cigs just to make a point and to hack you off, few words GET A LIFE !!!
Welcome to Trucknet, Bluebird!
As the guys have said in previous posts, hopefully now that you’ve had a polite word, your fellow cab sharer won’t leave any traces, if he smokes.
If he’s not that respectful, then… I guess it depends how much it bothers you.
From a personal point of view, I have asthma and smoke makes me genuinely ill.
It doesn’t matter if the smoker has left windows open, polished the dashboard etc, the slime from the nicotine permeates the roof lining etc. and gives off sufficient fumes to have me wheezing and eyes watering within minutes!
AND - I don’t get paid enough to risk cancer from the smoke (or lungs - urgh!) from a relative stranger!

I would suggest that a job which involves 12 or so days driving along main roads and sucking up car exhaust fumes might not be for you then?

I can remember when truck driving was a man’s job…could not have put it better my self
im guessing you two dont share a truck and i think its more of a cleaning issue which would pee me off aswell,if i could spend the time to keep it clean then the other driver should show the same respect

Did anyone try smelling it when you weren’t in it
If rEally you sMoked then Not possible you are beinG abled to smEll it…
I drive fleet and loads of the other drivers smoke in the trucks, the trick is to smoke with the window down and drive with both windows down for a while when you have finished. You sometimes get a faint odour of smoke and a bit of ash about the place, the thing that ■■■■■■ me of the most is when they spray some foul smelling deodorant around the cab leaving it smelling like a tarts handbag in a laughable attempt to hide the stink and presume that the next driver was born yesterday.
I find the contents of the previous drivers nasal passage on the inside of the windscreen and bits of fingernail spat around the cab and someone to fat and lazy to take their boots off before getting on the bunk far more offensive than the faint whiff of stale tobacco.
Back in the day, I sometimes had to drive a wagon whose regular driver chain-smoked cigars. Now I smoke meself, but that really used to make my eyes water!
Personally I think if the other guy makes a genuine effort then I’d overlook the occasional slight whiff; if however he insists on leaving the cab like an ashtray then something needs to be said or done. I mentioned in another thread about one of ours whose cab absolutely reeks, not of ■■■■ cos he don’t smoke but it smells like an old drain. So how do you tackle that then? I may be plain-spoken but even I’d find it awkward broaching the subject, and on principle I won’t clean his cab out.
If i get a cab smelling of ■■■■ i fill in a defect or notify transport as i don’t smoke and don’t want the blame and kicked off the job being agency
well i do smoke and can understand it probably smells horrible, and like others say! you can still smell it no matter whether you open the windows or not!
my solution was to get one of them electronic ■■■■! problem solved!

Why do you have to be sp personal, I would grass up an arrogant rude person, smoke is risking lung cancer.
why should a non smoker put up with the foul smell of smoke … you do not smell it, and it is just as bad as some guy who sweats …
however not smoking in a cab is the law and if a driver cant go no more than 2 hours without a cig then they have issues.
you could always stop and take a 15 break to get a cig!

I think you have something else wrong with you mate, I was born with Asthma, have grown up with it and still have it (hospitalised 2yrs ago with it), yet had parents that would smoke with us in the car (wasn’t frowned upon back then), when I met my missus she smoked for the 1st 11yrs we were together, if I pick anyone up in my car I allow them to smoke etc.
Doesn’t affect my Asthma in the slightest unless it’s so bad that I’d struggle even if I didn’t have Asthma

^^ This.
Smelly’s can trigger my Asthma, even those stick on timed smelly things, I have to turn them off, magic trees and the like seem ok, just the gaseous ones, too much perfume or deoderant can set it off too.
As others have said, open the windows for a bit, clean your ash up and all is good, really don’t see what the problem is, if someone doesn’t do that, then they’ve usually got other hygiene problems that would still have the cab stinking anyway, because they obviously don’t give a ■■■■.
The trouble is, no matter how much you smokers think you’ve cleaned it and got rid of the smell, you haven’t. You’re senses are blinkered by your habit. And we are really breaking new ground here, telling a driver with asthma that he should get another job, as his unwanted illness is stopping you breaking the law ffs
Find a day shift smoker and get him to share the unit with him. Some of our drivers either smoke in the cab or smoke that much during the day that the stink from their clothes permeates the cab long after they have left. I have never reported anyone yet, the managers are supposed to check the cabs for signs of smoking daily so I leave it up to them. If you have a dedicated unit though, and you are sharing it with one other driver it is best to come to some sort of arrangement about such things. When I drove taxis I shared with a night driver who smoked and he always hoovered out at the end of his shift and I always washed the outside and cleaned the windows.
A simple solution does exist,‘non smokers’ should be banned from pursuing the career of ‘lorry driver’ that would ensure that my tax revenue raising
habit of smoking 600 per week did not inconvenience anyone. However if I was a ‘non tax revenue raising, long living, burdensome non smoker with body odour’ I would probably wish ‘smokers’ chose an alternative occupation that did not contaminate my nostrils.

So many smokers bring up the ‘tax revenue’ argument, they’re usually the same ones who buy contraband of their mate in the pub
So many ‘non smokers’ demanded cleaner pubs…then didn’t bother going there when it happened Doh!!!
