same as penalty notices for supermarket / matalan / mcdonalds etc etc car parks… if they want to pursue you for payment they need to be registered with dvla to get your details from your registration, that costs them money each time, then if you don’t pay they would have to chase you through the small claims process, which, i think, costs them a little bit more… so if it was me i would ignore it because they are just hoping that a certain percentage will be afraid and pay up without question. please don’t confuse with council or on street parking though… no doubt someone will correct me if i’m wrong…
I can say that this information is entirely correct, the tossers won’t persue anything too difficult to chase as they would be the ultimate losers
So although i agree with the principle - on the whole most posters on this thread are saying its ok to use the facilities and park up in a reasonable secure place and not pay for the privilige ?
if you choose to park on private property and the owner says before you park there i would like £10 for you to stop on my property - you are quite within your rights to say screw you - and when you say this and get an invoice for stopping on someones private land its ok to ignore it ?
Bonkers if you ask me - if you make the choice to stop - you pay the cost

What boils my ■■■■ is that MSA’s were once owned by the public and were public property, free to stop on and park overnight, then to fund their ways the Labour government sold them off to Moto (Granada) etc, who initialy charged a fee of £5 to park overnight, but since have cranked it up to £25 on some stops within 10 years, a rise of 500% fair screw them.
The old ones were sold off - but the MSA’s have purchased land and built lots of new ones since those days -
don’t get me wrong i think the parking charges are way too high - but thats no excuse to park on private land and then say i am not paying to use your toilets/ showers/ etc
which is you stop for less than two hours are free to use anyway

You mention the word choice, do we really have a choice ? only of you continue driving over your hours to find a layby.
Services provide nothing to truckers that they dont already provide for car drivers (who dont have to pay more often than not)
What overnight facilities are provided exclusively for overnighters?
it still doesn’t mean you can use the facilities and then say you are not paying
We all have a choice - go past your favourite place - or stop
if you go past then you have to pay to use the next available place
you have the same rules as me - if i know where i want to go i will make sure i have the time to get there barring hold ups - then i will pay the price of what ever it cost’s to use the services -
but 99/100 you can judge your run and park where its better food etc -
I just don’t like the 'its too much and i won’t pay crap ’
if you don’t like the price don’t stop there - i don’t and there are soo many reasons reefers being number one !!!
I hope somebody cuts the clamps off that no-mark potato head buffoon in Maidstone Services then shoves it in his face !!
The geezer is a class one ignorant ■■■■ !!
Mind you i have to say (with No offence to ADY1) a few years ago a Stobart driver told me on the train he had a 9" battery powered angle grinder used for cutting clamps off, But he couldnt show me it because it was at his mums being "charged up "

Car drivers will get these ‘fines’ through the post as well if they stay more than 2 hours. The ones I mentioned earlier my son got were from times he was in a car and stopped for more than a couple of hours.
You really have to check the wording, ifyou are FINED then you have to stump up. If you are issued with a parking NOTICE then you are being INVITED to pay,no more.

The point I was making was services dont survive on drivers stopping longer than 2hrs, they do that with extortionate prices on food etc, its always been that way . IIRC services are legally obliged to provide parking, not legally obliged to charge for parking.
Any parking enforcement on Services that is not paid is merely a civil matter, in other words they can’t really enforce payment on you hence the ‘bullying’ tactics of quick letters in the beginning saying you only have to pay half if you pay within a set amount of days. That is because they know people panic and pay up that way. Anyone worried then visit the www.pepipoo.com/ website
Last year we went to Pops Truckstop on a Sunday to see the Cheshire Run,we parked the car in carpark which was empty and took loads of pics.A couple of days later my mate got a bill for 80quid 50quid if it was paid quickly. The robbing gits

And the parking notice has to be issued to the driver at the time, it can’t be issued to the registered keeper. If they don’t know who the driver is they cannot take action against them and the registered keeper has no legal obligation to tell them who the driver was at the time. If you get one of these type of parking charges then STFU and they can do nothing.
