I’m sure years ago you had to wear a shirt / tie when driving for samworths bros , so they did have a dress code & all this little hitler referred to by the op was just asking him to work to this dress code
I collect from a place that requires high viz trousers , boots , high viz tops , hard hats , safety glacsses , it’s hot but it’s there requirement , you know it and you just do it , so along come all the new starters who decide because there picking loads up on a night it’s fine to wear just a vest top , shorts & flip flops
, not one is bright enough to see the security cammeras scattered all round the yard
, apparently not one of the useless zb were aware of a dress code even though they’d done a induction on the rules on that site & been issued a full set of pp
, apparently none were aware every load had to be strapped either
I think the biggest issue is how some drivers can turn a pair of shorts into a scruffy rag , I see plenty who wear shorts and they look smart , others zb me , faded , filthy etc , one of our agency idiots thought a luminous lime green pair of swimming shorts was fine to wear as work wear , the problem is a lot of drivers need telling how to dress as there not capable of making a sensible decision themselfes
Ill guarantee he wouldn
t say that to a female, not to wear a skirt or (reasonable) shorts.
I work for a large multinational that handle/deliver foodstuffs.
We had a right old barsteward of a h.r. man.A few years ago I was a trendsetter wearing shorts in the summer.Only comment he made was taking the pee about my legs.Common sense comes into life sometimes.Presuming you weren`t showing a tuft of ■■■■■ each side!

‘…If it’s a food place then yeah, no shorts…’
I found this too and have been sent away for it - albeit agency in 2001 on the day England beat Germany 5-0 at footy (and paid a shift whilst watching it because ‘no-shorts’ wasn’t specified)
It’s arguably ironic that whilst one’s legs (hopefully) get a daily shower, a pair of trousers often ‘last’ for …* days/weeks/months, etc
- insert a number here
If you are transporting food as a wrapped, finished product then there shouldn’t be a problem. If it was then you wouldn’t be allowed in food shops wearing shorts.

As it hasn’t rained in some places for some time there could be a lot of dirty legs about at present.
Sign of the times in this job, stupid ■■■■ rules made up by d/heads in non jobs for no real reason…good old UK eh?
Our lot issued a memo about the same, many (including me) just ignored it.
I’ve been wearing shorts in trucks for ■■■■ years, and I aint stopping it for some prick just trying to show his authority and justify his existence.
It would be a different matter if the memo had read something like…
‘‘To those who are wearing shorts in this hot weather please carry trousers with them for when on certain customer’s premises, thank you’’
… aka treating us like adults.
Instead of the usual…
‘‘Disciplinary action will be taken’’ ■■■■■■■■…aka treating us like ■■■■ school boys.
So ■■■■ em !
There are a lot of places who state that boots, long sleeves long trousers must be worn and with good reason, steelworks, timberyards, coldstores.
I had some cotton Simpson’s pyjamas which were comfortable and light.
Another job doing food products in tanks, we were supplied shorts, t shirts, denim shirts, jeans, baseball caps, jumpers jackets and coveralls
I worked for a steel company for 16 years and shorts were not allowed in the warehouse
The risk of cutting a leg on the sharp steel edges was the reason and I agree with that
Out on the road = no prob with shorts on
I can’t wear shorts in my job, my lorry has no air con and I spend all day ■■■■■■■ around 250kg steel drums in between driving.
It’s great fun I tell thee.
Anybody else been to Hulland Ward where you have to rock up in full clown suit, including those ■■■■ horrible plastic hi viz trousers.
They are just lovely in summer those ■■■■ things, when you take them off they are abso soaking wet inside, as your legs are if wearing shorts under them.

Can we revoke Dozy’s smilile plivilages ?
Worked for a big supermarket many years ago, who insisted you wear a shirt and tie no matter what the weather, one particular very hot summers day at a certain London depot the drivers started to take their ties off because of the heat, the depot manager found out and told them that night at the end of shifts that anybody turning up the next day without wearing a tie as per company rules would be sent home without pay, the drivers duly turned up the next day wearing their ties either as a belt holding there trousers up or round their head like a sweat band, the depot manager went daft but there nothing he could do as the company rules only stated that you must wear a tie not HOW you wore the tie, a memo was duly sent out to all driver saying due to the hot weather ties need not be worn…happy days.

I was limping on the tippers once and wore shorts. The gaffer said stay in the cab, I don’t want you being seen , the squad were all wearing full PPE . I thought that it was ridicoulous but had to do it.
I’m supposed to wear flame proof overalls when I’m on site-Our work is electricity installation for big sites-when I’m standing on the lorry working the crane I’m further away than from the “danger” than members of the public walking past ffs.
Hardly ever ever wear the overalls, but we all got caught working in shorts today lol
Too hot to care…
MY EYES! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD; MY EYYEESSS!!!
AndrewG:
I dont wear anythingbut shorts april to october+ and cant think of any driver who doesnt here as long as socks arent worn with trainers thats a definite no noKarla wears just a skimpy top and hot pants and there never seems to be any objections here either…
H&S shouldnt even come into it, the only reason should be if theres a hose pipe ban on…
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
looks like you had a mega woooosssssssshhhhhh there bud…
These ■■■■■ should see some of the girls that go round to work sites with food vans for smoko and lunch. Shorts that make a blokes day. Most don’t even know what they’re buying, they’re so interested in the crumpet. No shorts with food, my arse… or hers.
I just switch from shorts to trousers are haz chem sites, irrelevant of Thier rules I don’t want any corrosive nastiness on my skin , as for food hygiene how ironic… if it’s that important the cargo company’s out there wouldn’t fight to pay the lowest price possible for it to be delivered as a backload by a general halualge firm who could of been shifting anything from empty pallets from a farm the day before, and shifting a load of Toxic the day after
