Dan Punchard:
How will being vat registered bump your earnings up 10percent

Because you charge 20% but pay 10% to the VAT man.

if you do this you can not reclaim vat on any purchase under £2000

You wouldn’t need to reclaim VAT as if it’s a business related purchase it will be tax deductible (the full amount)…unless it’s an item to sell on?

If charging VAT purely for ‘services’ then the flat VAT rate is a no brainer …

some of the yodel drivers running out of shaw nr Oldham are self employed through an agency, ive often wondered how they can possibly do this seeing they only work for yodel every day.

I am afraid not only is alive and kicking, but rather besides, seems to be Contractor livelihoods are under threat by a proposed test of false employment arising from the Autumn Statement. It could force all contractors, including those trading via limited companies, to pay Pay As You Earn (PAYE) income tax and National Insurance Contributions (NICs) on all assignments as per the proposed legislation as it is written would introduce a completely new test of false employment.
The best is yet to come.

Charming!!

Muckspreader:
I’d actually say be careful going Ltd until your sure, I don’t know anyone that pays less than £1000 for their accounts as self employed you’d pay £150-£200.
Go see an accountant & clarify with said company.

Mine is £500 for a LTD plus £250 for tax return.

Tipper Tom:
I can’t see an issue with you taking it in as LTD or LLP.

Self employed wouldn’t be too much of an issue either. As long as you can show other “customers”

Personally I am LLP and I invoice about 4 customers every year. One if which is always MIL and payment is never forth coming. But you don’t have to be paid only generate the invoice.

Good luck with the new opportunity no matter how you go about it

Tom, what made you go LLP over LTD?

The fact that it allows multiple partners to direct the business without the need for them to register as directors. Thereby sharing liability

Charming!!

It presumes that contractors are employees for the purposes of income tax and NICs unless it can be proved by the agency that they are NOT UNDER THE CONTROL, DIRECTION AND SUPERVISION of the client as to the manner in which they provide their services.
