Dave, I would think they 8 legger Dodge would have a ■■■■■■■ (badged a Chrysler) V6 or a Perkins V8.
Harry ,Didn’t those Bradley internationals have 6.354 perkins in them ? i.e. absolutely gutless !
[/quote
The Dodge K series four wheeler I drove had a Perkins 6.354 in Trev,it wouldn’t pull your granny off the ■■■■ pot. Some of the Dodge tractor units of the same model had the V8 they were noisy gutless things.
Cheers Dave.
I will never understand why,in the 60’s,anyone haulier in their right mind went to the trouble of creating an 8 wheeler out of either the K model Dodge,Ford D1000 or KM Bedford chassis and the the one that has to “take the biscuit” a TK 8 legger! shots of the TK have been posted on the thread previously! very strange and very sad! Cheers Dennis.
Hi Dennis, suppose they were trying to get a real lightweight 8 legger for a good payload but as you say all they would end up with was a gutless dog. How about the Trader 8 legger what hairbrain thought that up?
I seem to remember somewhere inthe back of my head (that’s a scary place to go mind you) that the V8 Mandator had a High Datum Cab, so it stood a few inches taller than the standard cab ■■?
I am sure someone will correct me or have a better explantation
It did indeed, there’s a cracking photo in Graham Edge’s book on the V8 of one operated by Anglo Continental, and there’s a photo on IIRC the Long Departed Southampton Hauliers thread here, owned by somebody down that way

Have a look at the AEC V8 thread on here, it explains about the number of V8’s built and the high datum cab which was an attempt to solve some of the problems experienced with the V8. Franky.

Thanks Franky, I was confident that an explanation would be forthcoming
My brain obviously aint quite as addled as I thought it might be (there’s a lot of stuff in there somewhere, like my shed, just can’t always lay your hands on it straight away)
hiya,
Marc you’re talking about slowing your imput on here i know working as hard as you do to keep us old duffers happy must be tiring and time consuming for you but not "shutting shop"i hope i’d need to increase my daily medication if i did’nt get my daily fix of SM you’ve made my day on too many occasions to recall, thank you good buddy…
thanks harry long retired.
The Arthur Duckett Guy Invincible was made in model form by Corgi a few years back; I’ve got one, which Corgi sent by mistake instead of Moreton Cullimores S21 with the model cafe. I kept the Guy and reordered the Foden…
The Aurthur Duckett Guy 8 wheeler is my favourite out of these recent gems that Marc has allowed us “ancients” (well “H” is!!) the privelege to view to-day,thanks mate!! On a critical note however ( not concerning Bubbs of course!!) the sheeting on the Robson motor leaves a bit to be desired as the “bottle sheet” is way too far forward, unless the two mains were too short? just an observation!!! Keep 'em coming Marc if you know whats good for you!!! and you don’t want a mini-bus load of us lads—well old geezers--------,turning up in your street and holding a Demo!!! It will make the EDL look like a Sunday school parade!!! Cheers Dennis.

Hi again,
Harry my old pal,as the 200 page mark is not far away I can see you’re starting to get into “missing it” mode already.I do need to get my collection into some sort of order and as you may notice the cuttings have ceased and are living in the loft, the recent black and white pics will probably take us to 200 then perhaps once a week I’ll put something on.I had loads of cuttings but the best were put on here and only the crap was left ,now the photos are being shown and I would say are reasonably good quality and up to a certain standard but they will run out eventually.I’ve thousands of modern lorry photos which I could put on but these would be better on the dedicated photo forum…anyway Harry when scrapbook gets to 200 pages all I’ll have left of the black 'n whites will be pics of Scania 80s.
Western Express Haulage were eventually ECC or Heavy Transport weren’t they,or have I got it wrong?
Anyroad the AEC 6-legger must have been driven by a Welshman with that reg.

Here we go then,
Cheers Marc,
Hi Marc,
Good to see the D & N Morgan Atki from Craven Arms, also Cadwallader’s,along with Swains and Lloyds of Ludlow, they were all biggish fleets in their day.
Cheers Dave.
Crazytrucker:
Now didn’t Roy Strawbridge used to pull for Maldon (Mannies) Transport years ago?
‘Crazytrucker’
Yes, he worked for Maldon Transport & Grain Co (Peter Mann), then bought an old unit off him & started on his own, still pulling for him.
He then based himself at Harwich, and was in a trailer pool with a few others.
He ran a Sed Atki in the end, had one stolen from outside the Cafe at Hatfield Peverel on the A12, when he popped in for some change for the phone box (now there’s something we all used to use that we don’t see anymore)
He had a heart attack & had his licence revoked, after a heart bypass, he started a gardening round which he did until he passed away
Funnily enough, he was in Broomfield Hospital @ Chelmsford with his heart problem at te same time as Albert Moule (a class 2 driver who lived just around the corner from him)
Albert (quite a character) used to drive a Volvo F7 8 wheeled tipper for David Fisher (a local farm), in a very unusual purple colour, until his licence was revoked for his heart condition.,
He is still alive & just as annoying as he’s always been !!!
