3300John: you obviously know quite a lot, so don’t lie
Lots of good info, I knew next to nothing as to what engines were used, now I know, THANKS!
But, Frankydobo got it, I cann’t say Mandator or Mercury when I look at (pic of) one and there’s no badge on the grill.
I somehow worked out the V8 Mandator had fuel tank on the RHS, so that’s one down.
I also cann’t spot a diff between TG6 and TGM6 (Mammoth Major and Marshall)…
Maybe I don’t need to know absolutely everything…

Iirc… the Mercury had a small oblong tank and the Mandator a round one, although some operators put the larger round tank on the Mercury.

I think you are being very modest Marc. Most of us look at this thread, plus all the 8LXB followers  .
Cheers Dave.

Fraid it isn’t Marcus! It will be a ■■■■■■■ 220 more than likely!! Why didn’t Guys put the correct and relevant engine badges on the grilles? I bet it wouldn’t have cost them an extra penny as Gardner and ■■■■■■■ would have been only too happy to supply! Then we could have avoided all this on going intreague of the Big J “yeti” 8LXB!!! Congrats on reaching the 400k milestone by the way! Cheers Dennis.

I think most trucks left the factory with a badge indicating the model just some badges ended up on tool boxes…
John

You’ve visited our workshop then, John, where there’s at least one nice Caterpillar badge attached to a Snap-on box (which would look much better on my lorry), plus a Gardner Power and a couple of ■■■■■■■ badges. More chrome on the toolboxes than on the grilles…
Talking of which, does anyone know where I can get hold of one of those chrome horseshoes that fit onto the grille? I’ve looked on truck accessory websites but all I can find are those ones with a rather gay looking horses’ head in the middle? I want a horseshoe for the truck grille as it was a common feature on some of our wagons years ago…

Can I make a suggestion Nathan! Round your way I guess there will be a lot of horses and a few Blacksmiths,so make contact with one of these craftsmen and I would hazzard a guess that for the price of a pint he would sort you out a nice shoe either new or part worn. Then you could have it chromed and bingo! you’d have a better quality shoe that will last for ever!! Far better than the lightweight cast rubbish that you find on sale in the “nick nack” shops!! It will still be in perfect condition when young Callum? puts it on the grille of his knew 8 legger!!! Cheers Dennis.

Hello again,I’ve got to agree about the SoM AEC,a classic picture  .Crazytrucker…pleased you like the stuff from earlier in the thread, but as I’ve mentioned before that when this gets to 200 pages then I’m gonna reduce my input…

Cheers Bubbs,

Hi Bubbleman. It was good to see the Consett Iron Company AEC it brought back some good memories, I served my time on these vehicles in the CIC Garage, all the heavy vehicles were AEC ranging from 4 wheelers, Box Tractors, Artics up to the 6 wheeled dump trucks. There does not seem to many CIC truck photo’s around. Keep them comming

Hello lads, heres another selection of oldies

Cheers Bubbs,

Is he on these forums? I would love to know the company from Botley who used to load Polystyrene from Resil Plastics in Howden, later Vencel Resil and became Monsanto for a while. My mum became firm friends with the owner and his wife and spent holiday time with them.

I have loaded lots of open top containers but those “Half Height’s” were a piece of ■■■■ in comparison!

Super singles on the trailer too.

Whilst we are on about Ergo Cabbed AEC’s,

I seem to remember somewhere inthe back of my head (that’s a scary place to go mind you) that the V8 Mandator had a High Datum Cab, so it stood a few inches taller than the standard cab ■■?

I am sure someone will correct me or have a better explantation

Nice to see Roy Strawbidge’s Foden in the pics

He sadly passed away a few years ago, He was a little fellah with a funny eye, He certainly could push his motor along,
Last one he had was a Sed Atki with A Rolls in it,
Had to hang up his keys after a heart attack,
After a bypass op, he started gardening for a while,
Still see one of his son’s most days cycle past on his way home to Southminster

Hello again, good stuff Pat…well done for posting those.Heres another few.

Hi Marc,
Bet that eight wheeler Dodge was a gutless wonder.I had a four wheeler K series, that was bad enough. Good pics again  .
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Remember well those Bradley of Accrington motors does anyone know what the gross weight was for them??, i used to to see them struggling with laden tandem axle trailers surely they was never twenty tonners if you got behind one on the a59 from the m6 you might as well pull into a layby and have a Woodbine would’nt pull the blankets off you.
thanks harry long retired.

Dave, I would think they 8 legger Dodge would have a ■■■■■■■ (badged a Chrysler) V6 or a Perkins V8.

Harry ,Didn’t those Bradley internationals have 6.354 perkins in them ? i.e. absolutely gutless !

The Dodge K series four wheeler I drove had a Perkins 6.354 in Trev,it wouldn’t pull your granny off the ■■■■ pot. Some of the Dodge tractor units of the same model had the V8 they were noisy gutless things.
Cheers Dave.

I will never understand why,in the 60’s,anyone haulier in their right mind went to the trouble of creating an 8 wheeler out of either the K model Dodge,Ford D1000 or KM Bedford chassis and the the one that has to “take the biscuit” a TK 8 legger! shots of the TK have been posted on the thread previously! very strange and very sad! Cheers Dennis.
