I’m pretty sure I’ve seen the last pic on another thread also, but it’s a great shot…I’d love to have been stood at that spot for a few hours with my camera.

Cheers Bubbs,

A well travelled driver friend of mine doesn’t think it’s Shap but looks like the A68 at Carter Bar.
Any advance on the A68?

Morning Andrew. No,it’s not Woodhead for definite. There is only one piece of three lane road and that’s on the Sheffield side and is a straight piece, not curved like that.

I looked at Carter Bar on StreetView and can see on place where it could be, but when I posted the Shap video, it looked like that in a couple of places and the lanes were a ■■■■■■■■■

hi all,
That looks like the A68 just north of Carefraemill. That stretch of road is still the same today.

Hiya i was just looking at the shap video.if you look at the 61/2to 7 min bit there,s a two lane
bit of road starting south bound.(just after the lights) you can see the pylons BUT there are 40ft high
conifers that make the scene look differant
I think i,ll go for there…those traffic light was there the last time i come over shap,Oh it was only last
year coming back from the ayrshire road run

An arborist could work that out for you. How fast do conifers grow and as the F86 may be around 1967/8 how tall would they be now :stuck_out_tongue:

Hello again,That “road” shot is bringing out some great replies, isn’t it funny that pictures like this which captures a snapshot of the past can be more interesting than the static shots,I wish I had more.

Heres todays stuff,First pic of the chinese 6 BMC,what kind of sadistic person made this…my old man had one of these things(a 4 wheel box) and as a boy in the passenger seat I was treated to his “discription” of it as it struggled up hills…I got the drift that it wasn’t good!!

Cheers Bubbs,

Is there any benefit to a chinese 6 tipper? I can think of in multidrop bulk feed work where the body has compartments (chinese 6 arrangement for axle weights) but that’s about it…

bubbleman:
Hello again,Heres todays pic of a chinese 6 leyland comet!!!. bubbs you may of hit on a rare bird here…the chap who owns Brittinia haulage in Holyhead is restoring a lorry like the one in the photo and its one of only three or four built by leyland i suppose primrose would have done some. i can,t tell if this is a leyland or a primrose second steer

I know I posted earlier but it is defo on the north side of Shap fell south of the old Shap Granite pink quarry where the road curves to the right and the climb to the summit starts proper. All that fell is,of course, planted with conifirs which must be 40 odd years old now, and that curb on the right of the shot goes,or did, into another disused small quarry which was a Westmorland C.C. dump for chippings, salt ect IIRC.Cheers Dennis.
