Nice shot of the Foden that Bubbs has put on! I wonder what the ULW of that beauty was? Those widespread York SL’s were notorious for cracking their frames though.I can remember Poplar Transport as well, pity there are no shots of their motors,Maroon and light blue IIRC and were they all 8LXBs John? The shot of the Robson Trader is also a "cracker"IIRC they didn’t run 4 in-lines behind the Traders which would have allowed them to run at 24 ton gvw.anyway cracking shots Bubbs!!! Cheers Dennis.

Right click your mouse on the red cross, then left click where it says show picture, sometimes you have to do it twice.

I couldn’t see any of Bubbs or Ainacs pics until I changed my router.

Hiya… was,nt pops transport run by two brothers who had a fall out and everything was sold off.
looking back it perhaps did them a favor to get out of transport before the rot set in.
was,nt it about that time that wardell,s got a foot hold in around warrington on the transport scene.
Iam only saying about the time not that wardells took over.

Bubbs this may be of interest to you or anyone else for that matter, yesterday while driving out of Kenilworth towards Leamington an F86 fully restored and pulling a trailer came round the roundabout for the A46, in front was a car with a guy leaning out of the sunroof taking photos. It was light Green, and because I was so taken by it, only managed to see the word…Warks… on the door. I know you have a love of this model Bubbs, if I see it again or if anyone knows whose it is, I’ll try and get some photos.

hi cliff,
as classicman correctly said,it’s the first volvo f86 sold in the uk.you probably saw my mate bob tuck, out and about doing a photoshoot for a future article in heritage commercials.bob rang me earlier and said that’s what he is doing at the mo.
regards andrew

That would be this one then!

Wow, i have not seen this truck in a long time, i used to do a bit of work on this truck when i was working for Dawson Freight Commercials/Volvo T&B in Coventry, they never used to let anyone drive it on the road, it got trailered everywhere.

Hello again,I’ve been sorting a few pics out for tomorrow and found an old KM from Ivor Goviers fleet,Topliner asked me if I had anything…this is the only shot I have. Also Neil asked to repeat some pics from way back…the ones I’m putting on are probably not the ones he wanted but they are Arthur Ducketts

Hope these will do lads.

Cheers Bubbs,

The Logo does look similar to Sovtranavto but think it is just a play on the initials. using a C&S intertwined

An internet search tells me HAKO BV finished in 1973 but I remember them in Felixstowe

Hello again, more black 'n whites. …first ones for Dennis as he likes J&H

Final pic is the V8 Mandator prototype on trial with Westerns seen in Bristol city centre.

Cheers Bubbs,

I worked for SVW Distribution (part of Babycham) in the early '70s and we had one of the older type of these ERFs used for recovery etc.
I had a Commer with a Perkins that blew a head gasket and boiled up, so they sent a fitter in this ERF to tow me in.
The ERF couldn’t get much above 40mph (except down hill) so the run up the M1 was taking forever. I had my engine ticking over for brakes etc and after a while I slipped it into gear to give a little push up the hill by Worksop. The fitter realised what I was doing and went with it - we got up to 60mph before mine started boiling again so we had to give up, he told me after he’d had to drop out of gear to save his engine (Gardner) from exploding.

bubbleman:
Hi again,Good stuff Phil…not seen some of those before, where have you been hiding them you bugger  …ok some from me now

Cheers Bubbs,

That old 240 F88 on the left is the motor I went on my first m/e trip on in 1975,Baghdad.

bubbleman:
Hello again, well that old Atki of Hagues has brought out some nice history of the company from Marky…although I have to say the cutting came from a copy of Roadway the RHAs in house magazine distributed to its members…and was from 1966,so I suppose 1,000000 miles could have been clocked and it wouldnt have had to stop though. :open_mouth:

Bedfords today.

Hope these are of interest.

Cheers Bubbs.

HI marc ,been gradually going through your thread and just found this TLT photo.
our Dad drove the only one they had in Totton with the ■■■■ Whittington and his cat on it.

Fully agree with you on that John, at the first glance I thought it was an S50 but that one I believe is an S41, like an S40 but the front poked out a bit to make more room for the 240 Gardner. Correct me if I’m wrong. Regards,Haddy.

S 41 Motor Panels cab, similar to the Guy Big J cab fitted with the 240 eight potter.
