Good to see a pic of a BB&O Commer artic Marcus, their fleet always seemed camera shy! Used to deliver to Twyford Mill with the old man back in the 1960’s when they had a lot of trucks of their own.

Bubbs this may be of interest to you or anyone else for that matter, yesterday while driving out of Kenilworth towards Leamington an F86 fully restored and pulling a trailer came round the roundabout for the A46, in front was a car with a guy leaning out of the sunroof taking photos. It was light Green, and because I was so taken by it, only managed to see the word…Warks… on the door. I know you have a love of this model Bubbs, if I see it again or if anyone knows whose it is, I’ll try and get some photos.

hi cliff,
as classicman correctly said,it’s the first volvo f86 sold in the uk.you probably saw my mate bob tuck, out and about doing a photoshoot for a future article in heritage commercials.bob rang me earlier and said that’s what he is doing at the mo.
regards andrew

That would be this one then!

Thanks Malc… yes thats the one guys, I should have know with Volvo being just up the road.

The picture of that Leyland is very typical of what my Grandfather drove for Febrys, may of even been his.

Thanks Bubbleman.

J&S Hemmings, Also known as Jubilee Transport used to haul steel out of the old Round Oak steel works in Brierley Hill, (Dudley). After the steel works closed it was demolished and is now the Merry Hill shoppig centre.

Carl:

CX00006.jpg Bubbleman would you say these wagons were parked in the same layby

Hello Foden 01,
Bubbs will be busy making a bob or two at the moment but to answer your question the photos are taken in the same place. They were taken by Adrian Cypher and this was his favourite lay-by. The lorries are heading west on the A4 opposite the
long gone Ridgeway cafe. The back of Adrians Austin car can be seen in one photo. He usually sat in the car and took the photos through the windscreen.
Going west the cafe was just before that conical hill that looks like a pile of dinasour do-do.

Cheers Phil.

Phil thanks for that very intresting i though that road was the A299 in kent running out of ramsgate thats where the vw,s came in ,went there manys times as a lad with my Dad running down from coventry ,he drove that leyland in the pic ,thanks again …mark

Foden 1, that’s uncanny, I was just looking at the tanker photo, thinking the same as you, before you posted it, and now we know why, great stuff.

I see you gave me a better sized container today Bubbs - and a tri-ax too! Pity it wasn’t an F86 pulling it

Hi again, thanks to Phil for explaining the location of Febrys Octopus, yes he’s spot on with the info…Adrian is a great pal of mine and is quite happy for me to share his pictures on here…he saw some classic stuff pass and park in the lay-by and remember the M4 had’nt been built so this route was the way west.If only we could turn the clock back :frowning:

Cheers Bubbs,

Hi Bubbleman, Just spent the last few days looking at this great thread, Many pics bring back loads of memories. Have you anything of a Gauden Shepherd Transport from Halesowen? They ran mainly Atkinsons. Any pics would be great. Ta.

Great pics as always Bubbs, love this thread :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: Keep em comin

That Capstaffe Mammoth Major is interesting, not so much the wagon but the signwriting, they seem to have lost the ‘e’ from the end of the name on later vehicles. Great these Black n White pics, has anybody else noticed how clean the kirbsides and streets are on these old photo’s, something we definately need to get back to thesedays. Cheers Franky.

bubbleman:

The first firm owned by Vic Wild that grew into the Wild Group with the same colour scheme.
The last firm in the group to be running was Tancocks of Exeter.
There was another firm with the name of Wild with the same colour scheme from Rochester,no relation,no connection.

Cheers Phil.

Hi again,Good stuff Phil…not seen some of those before, where have you been hiding them you bugger  …ok some from me now

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen the last pic on another thread also, but it’s a great shot…I’d love to have been stood at that spot for a few hours with my camera.
