Having a break top of birdlip before dual carriageway was built

Birdlip’s great fun when descending loaded with the Jake Brake growling away, but the best sound I’ve heard along there is the sound of 3 Oshkosh tank transporters fully loaded going up to Cirencester

Iused to go up that hill to Cirencester a few years ago with 23 tons of glass,i had a Renault 290GT ,i had to stop at the bottom and blindfold it to get it up,i got a Foden with a 320Gardner in after that thing and the blindfold was binned

Couple more from my days on Thompsons, first one with a back load of paper reels stood on end in South Shields docks, the second one with two steel coils on a 33ft York. (With a skinnier fitter me posing)

The last of my Malta photos.

How old is this venerable machine still earning a daily crust. It has just reached the top of a steep climb
on a new bypass to Gozo ferry. It still has the climb to Sleima to come.
If anyone is planning a trip to Malta soon the annual vehicle show at Ta Qal airfield is on May 21st
when many vehicles normally locked away will be on display.

Cheers Phil.

Hi Numbum,
Thanks for the photos of the Maltese trucks. I am going to Malta, arriving early on May 21 !!! Whilst the family are unpacking, I ll head off to Ta Qali. I have not been fortunate to see the past truck shows so this will possibly be too good to miss. I have many photos from previous visits, so I will post some of the more-interesting on this Scrapbook Memories thread. Sadly, it wont be long before the older trucks will be forced to retire because of E U regulations.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.

This one came from Bristow helicopters, it was plated at 28 tonnes and had three seats.

This wagon’s the centrefold in CVC this month. I’m sure Altitude’ll correct me but I think Miller Bros (lechlade) became Chris Miller Haulage. If so, he packed up recently but one of his blue 8w Scanias is still about I think its ?8 CMT. They used to do a lot out of Johnsons siding at Wooton Bassett and out of the Lechlade gravel pits.

altitude:
Anyone know if Millers of Lechlade are still going.

No I don’t think they are John I’m sure they packed up not long after Chick came to Davies Trans. I have a feeling that may have been his GUY.

I agree Bubbs,Alf Vaughan from Worksop is a blast from the past. And does anybody know if Carless from Harwich and Longton S-o-T are still going?

Re’ the Maltese pics; If there is a tightening of emissions regs, will there be some reimporting of classic lorries into the UK? Thought of this judging from the number of ones shipped back from New Zealand that seem to appear in CVC Classifieds…

Hello again,Had a nice PM from Mick, his old fella drove for Tate and Lyle so heres a few for him

Cheers Bubbs,
