Kingtrucker143:
Having a break top of birdlip before dual carriageway was built

Birdlip’s great fun when descending loaded with the Jake Brake growling away, but the best sound I’ve heard along there is the sound of 3 Oshkosh tank transporters fully loaded going up to Cirencester

Was that a dinner break? It would take a full day to climb birdlip in a 2300 Daf

Used to stop there myself back in the good old days  .

Without getting a map out is Birdlip on the Swindon-Gloucester road,if so think I used it once years ago, there was nice view from the top IIRC.

Fantastic view Chris, you can see Gloucester and the Forest of Dean and back into Wales on clear day.

VOSA like the view from nearby Seven Springs. Three of us stopped there last spring during a check, and a copper said to one of my colleagues “you’re either brave or very confident in your workshop” (we were left alone but Vosa must’ve thought it odd we stopped there voluntarily)

Has the junction improvement made much different Nathan, last time I came through that way, they were in the middle of doing it.

I can see Wales from our front room window on a clear day Dave, only about 50-60 miles away over the sea.

The roundabouts feel odd Dave; I wouldn’t corner with a high load very quick as I can feel a “pull” when I go around with a tipper. The Cerney road off it’s got a weight limit on now, like the A46 from Brockworth a victim of the Glos Councils’ lorry purge…

Will have a ride down that way in the summer, thats if I can afford the diesel :unamused:  .
Cheers Dave.

Our 8wheelers are getting down your way Dave; They’re taking 200mm stone to J2 of the M50 for an embankment/culvert job.

A bit further into England than here Nathan,we are about 45 miles from the M50 at Ledbury.

The furthest I’ve been getting in the last week is Banbury and High Wycombe; the wife’s close to giving birth so Smiths are keeping me on local less urgent jobs so if I have to dash off/don’t come in it’s not too much hassle to move work around onto other drivers.

Better put some pics on for hogging your thred Marc  .

Cheers Dave.

Fair play they are giving consideration to your impending arrival, hope all goes well for your wife and the little one.
Cheers Dave.

The last of my Malta photos.

How old is this venerable machine still earning a daily crust. It has just reached the top of a steep climb
on a new bypass to Gozo ferry. It still has the climb to Sleima to come.
If anyone is planning a trip to Malta soon the annual vehicle show at Ta Qal airfield is on May 21st
when many vehicles normally locked away will be on display.

Cheers Phil.

An ammendment to my last post.
The last climb before the Gozo ferry is to Melliha. The after effects of the Cisk lager must still linger on.
Phil

Yes it was a gutless wagon but being an ex waitrose unit it was plated at 28 tonnes, I used to feel sorry for the Thompsons Devon boys, they had to put up with 38 tonnes with their 2300’s
