This has happened a few times with me last couple of days but today they came up straight away, no idea why though! Franky.
Bristol docks October 1945. I suppose you could not be to fussy back then with what you drove.
Portway Bristol 1981.
MKL 980 P Severn Bridge services November 1982. I used to take creosote to a firm Calders at Port Talbot who used to
pickle telegraph poles, perhaps this is some of them on delivery.
September 1982.
The reg no of this old bruiser is MRV 606 P.
Off to Malta Thurs to see old British vehicles with gearsticks in action. All the old buses are off the road in July to be replaced with Euro friendly things . Anybody wanting to see it will have to make a quick booking, I suppose the old lorries will be next.
Cheers Phil.

Just found this picture of 2 Commer TS3’sthese were the first brand new lorries on the fleet of Bernard Saunders of Walton on Thames
My Uncle Joe drove 51 VPD (replaced his Thames Trader)
and my late father - Chris Todd, drove 52 VPD - replaced his DennisThey were painted in a distinctive Red & Sand Colour, still used today on their fleet of mainly Hiab Lorries0
Toddy2,
Have you noticed the Commers have different exhaust systems, perhaps different engines?
Take it easy,
Rgds,
David
Hi 5thWheel
I noticed the different exhausts, but they were definately both TS3’s and sure did scream when being pushed,
Both of these motors were worked very hard, and were always run overloaded.
They were supposed to carry 12 tons, but often ran with 15 tons,
The rate of pay in those days was £4 a load up to West Midlands, My old Dad used to find his own return loads & so managed to earn £ 8 a day, which was very good money in those days
regards
Trev_H:
For some reason Commer 2 strokes always had 2 types of exhaust, rear mounted the silencers were fitted side by side (double barrel) and front mounted with 2 silencers in line, the tailpipe exiting right or leftOne I drove had the front mounted tailpipe on the n/s and would choke folks on the pavement, quite often spitting hot lumps of carbon at them when it de-coked
Incidently mine was one of the last built, about 71, the later cab to those in the photo, although both types had the same exhaust arrangement. I got it with 400,000mls on it and it was never overhauled !.
After these 2 Commers, Saunders ran the ones with the later (wider) cab, I have some pics somewhere (not very good) but will try & find & upload them.
After Saunders, he run his own lorries for a while, then workd for Marwin Transport (part of Carmans, now Brit European) - they ran a lot of Fodens, including 2 strokes - they were screamers too, One in Particular had been the Show model @ Earls Court, and was the first lorry on the M1 when it was opened (appeared on the front cover of Headlight Magazine) and he managed to drive it through the side of a house on the old A2 on one Rainy Good Friday Night
Hello again, good pics Phil…dont forget to photo some Maltese lorries on your holiday, there’ll be room on the scrapbook to see some when you come back
Heres todays stuff starting with a lorry with a decent livery and proper signwriting…
Hope these are ok,
Cheers Bubbs,

That F88 was still running around about 8,10 years ago. Not much room for the diesel tank on there.
That F88 is a G88 and used to do containers from Immingham not so long ago.
Maybe the fuel tank is in the home made spoiler
Hey wheelnut if it was a G88 its been turned back to a f88 again as its got steps infront of the mudguards.
maybe is because its a day cab it looks odd or evan the extra axle.
John
The enquiry is complete
The vehicle details for GAT 918N are:Date of Liability 01 01 2008
Date of First Registration 01 11 1974
Year of Manufacture 1974
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 0CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Heavy Oil
Export Marker Export
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour BEIGEIt seems we will never find out as it has gone for export.
Hmm, do you think there is some bespoke engineering going on there. The 2nd axle is certainly an add on, is it possible that a G88 had to be re-engineered and the steps moved to the front using a donor vehicle.
Answers please, someone must have driven it or worked on it
The F88 in question was owned and driven by a mr. Frank Bradley of Wrawby or Brigg nth lincs. It was originally a sleeper cab but when it rotted he chopped it off, and the third axle was fitted by him in a nissan hut workshop in JJ Hair’s haulage yard where he based the vehicle while hauling containers ex Immingham for Exxtor. He has now retired and sold the truck.
Brilliant photos again Bubbleman, good to see the AMEY Foden loading there.
Thanks for posting them.

You never cease to amaze Bubbleman! Do you have any background on the cutting or where it came from?
The F12 ‘On the Hook’ is BFJ960T which was driven by my Uncle from new. Stuarts still run a similar recovery outfit & I’m not sure if it might even be the same chassis with a later F12 cab fitted. Somewhere I have a photo of it at Gaydon last year.
Would you mind if I add it to the A.E. Stuart thread?
Regards, Andrew Stone.
Hi Andrew The volvo on the hook is actually GTA 721V which is an F10 because of the flags in the windscreen and the V painted on the wind deflector is much bolder than BFJ . Hope this helps.
Thanks
