Scrapbook Memories (Part 1)

hiya
Yes old mills and Scotland went hand in hand my memories are of the jute factories in Dundee delivered paper tubes to just about all of them in my early years as a wag and drag driver some fantastic stone built buildings but alas many of them was built in the horse and cart era, but was still expected to put what was at that time the biggest combination on British roads into places where in days of yore only the horses used to venture anybody who says they never had to resort to hanging the trailer on the nose at some of those places is in my opinion telling “porky pies” .just tak it roond the back driver.

Not wishing to disrupt this busy thread but I just came across a brilliant link from Malc18 of lorries North of the Border, it is on Flickr and bound by copyright. But click on the link and enjoy, lots of rally cars and fairground vehicles, but all the haulage companies featured should ring some bells!

I do like them lorries in this pan-slavic tricolor… perhaps something to do with my origin?

Re: paper industry
The number of paper mills came down and so did the number of their employees, but those remaining ones got bigger and bigger. The mills also use less domestic wood today (not many forests left anyway), importing pulp instead and using collected scrap paper. Scrap paper is even exported from UK (mostly to China).
E.g. King’s Lynn has got a new paper mill, with one of the world’s biggest machines in it; then I can think of Inverkeithing, Sittingbourne, Oatley, Glenrothes, Darwen…

Bubbs who’s is the Spanish Dodge, I can’t quiet make it out, it’s a Coventry reg YHP 324S, cheers
