How did the Gardner perform Rob,i had a 320 Gardner in a D reg Foden with a 9 speed Fuller and that could pull…mind i had just come off an E reg Renault 290 GT?? 6X2, that was the worst thing i ever drove still dont know what the GT stood for

As far as I remember it was 300 8cyl LXB; it was a typical Gardener noisy dirty and smelly, but pulled like a train, the ■■■■■■■ 290E 14ltr I changed it to was sharper and marginally better on fuel.

I can only ever remember H. Hibberds being green. Not mixing them up with Hills of Swindon are you? they were red and lot’s of them about in the 60s.

I remember seeing Hills of Swindon Thames Trader tippers Altitude but I,ve always had it in my mind that I saw an AEC Mark V Mandator low loader with H Hibberd on it in the early 60’s and it was painted red, also a small picture in a truck or plant mag years ago of a Bedford S type low loader also in red-perhaps I’ve lost the plot. Regards Tim)

Commer 2 stroke driven by my Dad around 1962, he used to load it with loose sawdust about 3or4 tons …on his own with a hand shovel !!! :open_mouth: :open_mouth: then handball bagged sawdust on top, how many of us would apply for that job now if advertised.

Pretty sure that Hibberds colours were always green. Red motors - you could be thinking of Hills ?
Hills yard and workshops were at the bottom of Kingshill. Harry Hibberds was at a place called Rushey Platt on Wootton Bassett rd- next to James Davis timber.

I like the two stroke. It brings back memories for my dad when he used to go with my grandad handballin animal feed around the lakes. Does the reg. on this start with CRM?

Yeh CRM, ■■■■■■■ registered, belonged to Jack Cook from Silloth; he also ran a S type Bedford and a Thames Trader as far as I remember.

You could well be right Tim but I can only remember them in Green, someone on here will put us right. You are right about Hills Traders, they had loads of them I was always in them on school holidays, as Suedhead posted Hills yard was at the bottom of Kingshill.)

MolePower:
nice pics bubbleman , really liking the Lionel T phillips pics , that vac feed tanker always held a fascination for me , not least when i saw it being loaded at Pen Mill Feeds once while waiting to load !

any info on this old girl ? this was my very first drive after passing my test back in the day

Scania 112m B515WYD
seen here in B Reyland colours , but was previously orange in her previous life with ex-Yeobridge transport / ex-Stemwest potatoes
i had it for a while till it eventually went bang , not sure if she was worth rescuing or was scrapped , she’d done well over a million kms as she used to be on uk/european duties in her younger days so i was led to believe .

Hi Molepower…here she is with I believe her first owner,Central had B514WYD as well.

Cheers Bubbs,

What a beauty!

Well I never, I sold this truck new in 98 to PHI - Parkhouse International from Stoke on Trent, they had 3 of them of me, ran them on the JCB contract running to Spain before Brit European took it.

Regards
Ant

She’s looking a lot better in that photo.

Hi again, good pics Pat,I saw that Iveco when I holidayed in Cyprus earlier this year,it was near Pathos…a sad end for the old girl.Right I spent several hours going through the cuttings looking for something…lets go back to what this thread started out as…just for a few days.Apologies if I’ve put any on before.
