Scrapbook Memories (Part 1)

hiya,
The BRS BMC’s were notorious for breaking crankshafts there was one in the workshops every week awaiting being re-engined i only drove one on the rare occasion and it blew up fve minutes walk from the old Wolverhampton depot having noticed a bit of a strange noise when climbing Talke Bank, when i phoned home was told to take it easy to the afore mentioned depot so i gave it some stick but it died just before i made it, but they sent me a Mandator to finish the job down to the Cornish Riviiera that old girl did’nt khow it had a trailer on they gave me a Bristol after that, never managed to kill that one, and i did try.
thanks harry long retired.

Hello again, nice to see a good reaction on the old Mastiff,as far as I know the 8 wheel Landtrain heavy tractor of Fox’s was used on the Falklands after the conflict.
Hey,anyone remember Febrys of Chipping Sodbury?

Hope these are ok.

Cheers Bubbs,

Hello again,double posted
Bubbs,

Hi Bubbs, there’s a tipper firm from the Wickwar area called AE Febry, I presume it’s a relation.

Thanks for posting the Harris motors paper Bubbleman, t’s interesting to see it showing the western Transport Guy units. I passed their old yard on the Sharpness road today.

I’ll have to try & get hold of some A.F.Cook photos if I can. I know of a chap who used to work for drews, I’ll try & find him, he may have some photos I can borrow. If I get some I’ll have a go at posting them.

Hello, heres a few more from the collection.

Here, I just had a thought, this pic of the 88 was took at Codford cafe on the A36 near Warminster, the cafe behind was being rebuilt from the wooden shack, now this pic must have been took 30 years ago…Christ!!! I feel bloody old :frowning:

Cheers Bubbs(Old Git),

Great pics. again Marc, that A.E. Hawkins Foden has brought back some memories! Think I might be borrowing that for the “Firms around Walsall” thread, if you don’t mind. Looks like the driver was a Cradley Heath Speedway fan with the name on the windscreen!

Help yourself Big G…

Bubbs.

Great pics as ever bubbs mate.
Here’s a pic of the mate to A E Hawkins’ Foden S108. I took this at Exeter services in 1990. Big G mate please feel free to use it on the Shropshire thread,I only ask that you credit me with the photo.
Cheers fellas.

oops forgot the pic.

Cheers Jamie

Thanks for that Jamie, will do. I can see from your pic they are from Kingswinford so I think I am getting confused, (again!) with Hawkins Tiles, probably a different firm altogether!  I’ll keep taking the tablets!

Great pic of the ARC Scammell Bubbs. been after a pic of an ARC truck as I’m planning to paint some 2nd hand models I’ve bought as jumble but not sure what “mustard shade” to buy! shouldn’t be too hard to match now, just need the right transfers!
The Foxbury Farm TM; They still run a Foden unit with (I think a unit mounted hiab) on a D reg.

I reckon the test of a motor is whether you dipped the oil in the cab or outside, and a good motor was one you could fill up without spilling engine oil over the drivers seat :stuck_out_tongue:
