Hi Marc here is a pic that Tony Eldridge who was the workshop manager of Sea Route Ferry here in Southampton gave me a couple of days ago of 4 new Scania R113 6X2’s being delivered. I think they are all ‘L’ reg but you know what my eyes are like

This would have been somewhere between 1st aug 1993 to 31st july 1994.

Tony is in the blue shirt

L2 , L3 , L4 , L5 SRF , L3 and L5 went to Heywood . L3 is still about ive seen it pulling tippers out of Liverpool . I recognise the other guy in the pic as well i think he was called Eric .

Hiya …OK WHO,s is the F88 she looks well worn if she was a late one (S reg)she will have done 7 years hard labour.
But the Scania dos,nt look new and what year did they start having 5 axles for 38 ton about 1988 that would make
the volvo 12 maybe 13 years old… what do you think■■?

Hope these are ok.They,re spot on Bubbs
Cheers John

Hi 3300 John, wasn’t it 1983 the weights went to 38,000 kg. A few of them Scania’s have had tag axles added as conversions.

hi paul,
you are right,it was 1983.by the look of that trailer,i would say that is an early 38 tonner.those earlier siderails were very heavy, shunters in the steelworks in port talbot used to do all kinds of damage with them and too them
regards andrew

Not strictly trucks but I expect there are some firemen aficionados out there!

I put one on the front of a Commer with a Leyland 400 and it boiled up next time out so I’ve never done it again.

I had to look twice at the Volvo FL pic. Thats very unusual, was it the same vehicle that started out as a cattle float?.

I remeber there being quite a few of this configuration around at one time.

Partridges from Devon had one on Livestock. IIRC they were not the best when it came to going around corners. Think they had a nasty smash with theirs?

I’m pretty sure it belongs to Bernie Baily who has an engineering company not too far from Watton in Norfolk. He used to be in haulage and ran several Ford Transcontinentals and to my knowlege still has a couple of them preserved. Regards, Haddy.

Hi again,heres todays bunch

Triffic pics, thank you!

And this one went on to a good home:

Yes this pic was a rare one we had to put Big Bird on the road in a rush ,because one of our F88 had clutch problems . She is missing her red stripes and sign writing in this pic . The york stone flags were a pain in the back side hand ball loading only .
