That is the one which I always thought the company name was spelt wrongly. Until I went to Frating
They are mostly Colchester companies;Pertwees -Hythe, Alstons -Gosbecks Rd.,Crossways -Frating.

hiya,
Pete I can thing of several names which would be suitable for an 80 headboard

Hello lads, heres a bunch of pics which are a bit of a change…They are all copyrighted to Numbum who’s a regular contributer to the scrapbook.
Some interesting photos yeah, well I would think the drivers all got out safely and walked away. There are a few more pics like these which could be shown but the cabs on the lorries are completely destroyed and its possible the driver never made it

Got to agree with you there Harry. Way back in the 70s I was driving a Mk 1 Atki for Midlands Storage. A TDG company, we were told that TDG ‘didn’t buy foreign’ but later, after a spell at Bunny Hill Motors I started a Bristol night trunk for Stirlands (it wasn’t permitted to leave one TDG company for another without a break) and they gave me a Mk 2 Atki. However there were two Scania 80s on the fleet and I wondered how they had got passed the TDG ‘ban’ and hoped one day to drive them.
My chance came one night when my day man got stranded on an unexpected night out and thay gave me the Scanny. It was awful, freezing cold, no power at all, and a terrible gearbox. The following night it was presented to me again and I refused point blank and insisted on taking out a spare Atki. Never thought I’d be doing that before that point.

hiya,
Late 60s when I got lumbered with an 80 came off an Atki with a 220 ■■■■■■■ to take over a brand new 80 my old motor was known as the “powerhouse” big engine in those days, did one trip in the Scania and I asked for my old Atki back didn’t get it so sought pastures new, beats me how those Scania 80s and those Volvo 86s got plated at 32 tons, awful bleedin things.
thanks harry long retired.
nothing wrong with them little 80s cant stand by and see them being knocked re rowland

Only drove one of them, it was a bad 'un, shapes your opinion of the whole breed doesn’t it? I felt like that about all Scanias until I drove a 110 with a fold down couchette. That was a different kettle of fish pre, for me, sleeper cab days. Everything about it was better except, perhaps, for the gearbox. But that’s a personal thing, not much on synchro boxes.
One to add to your (bit of a change Bubbs)

Hi again,ok heres a few more wagons involved in bumps.
Looks like the poor soul in the Anglia didnt make it judging by the blanket over the driver
The door of the Anglia is still embeded in the front of the TK.
This one makes me smile as the steamer is still happily burbling away probably never even felt the impact of the van.
Cheers Bubbs,
these are post cards i have found, anyone recognise them??
1923 FODEN STEAM WAGON states now owned by DENNIS BRANDT
SENTINAL STEAM WAGON states owned by MESSERS BROOK, HIRST, and MARSDEN
1938 COMMER N1 VAN
1935 LEYLAND BEAVER 8.6 LITRE FLAT LORRY
The Fison’s Beaver looks like it’s a Caledonian contract motor, you can just see the “S” in the registration.I wonder where the photo was taken?

Hi Toddy2…I got made redundant from Novacold on Dec 31st 1997…I started straight away for TNT,3 weeks after I started for them I bumped into the ERF on Leigh Delamere services and got chatting to the driver, his firm had just bought her and she was off to live in Paddock Wood…I heard a few years ago that she got impounded by Her Majestys Customs and Excise after bringing naughty things into the country.I was told they got suspicious because she was too old for TDG to be sending her over the water and they gave her a “tug”…so there is a chance that its still about albeit under lock and key.I know certain members on here can go on the DVLC site and see when lorries were last taxed or exported…if somebody could check for me I’d be gratefull.Heres another shot of her
Cheers Bubbs,
this one in Peter Davies erf book
Hi all,Revman…heres Petes picture in full. The lad “horizontal” in the bunk is my old pal Ivor Weekes.
Heres Ivor on the left with me on a night out somewhere This was in the days before Western Tpt and Coldlink joined together to create Novacold
Now onto todays bumps and scrapes
My old man had one of these as a 4 wheeler and that was a pile of crap, god knows what it went like as a 6 wheeler
On the back of the pic it says it was a Dodge…wow!!!
This Atki belonged to Continental Ferry Trailers.
Drive carefully lads.
Cheers Bubbs,
And to think we were in awe of the beer crates and kegs - what about those milk churns?
Blob of glue on the bottom of every one, I think.
