Good old Peter we did a lot of business together especially buying Scanias in Holland, how is he these days I haven’t seen him for years and years
I not seen him since about 2006 I think just before we emigrated out here.
I had the greatest respect for him, he paid well and wanted his $ worth.
I started for him in 85/86? did full time for couple of yrs then had machines of my own but, I still had to go back and do a trip or two for him, just to keep my hand in,ok ok I couldnt keep away, the elastic would let me get so far away then it kept dragging me back ! Then in 1995,got divorced and wanted to get away from all the sh** and well I knew where I could go  He was rubbing his hands together when I turned up in the office and told him I wanted to do the Russian work :unamused: Anyway I did it for couple of yrs and had a big problem with my back, and that man helped me and looked after me, I won
t say a bad word about him, I know hes upset a few,but I speak as I find, and think I
m qualified to,as I have worked for him, I know loads more have too, and many many many more 'have" I used to jobs for him and Edward til I came out here.(1985/6 til 2005 amd I
m still breathing  ) He had some very very good drivers, and some real a********s too ,but the wannabees didn
t last long !
1 thing I always tell people and they find it very hard to believe, in all the time I have drove for Peter Gilder, he has NEVER told me to do anything ! he always asked or he would drop a teaser, as hes done to me more than once, i.e in office on a monday, slim your on Agen today, mumble mumble mumble,,, then the closer,,, Oh so and so did Agen in 10.5 hrs last week, then he
d be onto something else, knowing full well, when I left Calais the old girl would be “LIT” !!!
Another one, when he had his sale,I rang him on mon or tues when I arrived in Tengiz just for a chat etc, mentioned I couldn`t tip til wed as was Kazak new year, he told me I was relaoding Nizny, then… “if I get subby to get your reload, you reckon you could be back here for the sale■■?”
Sorry to go off thread.
I agree with you John, Peter never did me any harm on the contrary really helped me out as I did him I hope.
Well done Marc, completing two years on a cracking thread is no mean achievement.
Cheers Dave.
Hi again, thanks to Pat,Jim,John and Swayzie for the pics and the rest of the lads who helped celebrate the last 2 years…
.To John.d.m…yep Bully was took in the yard at PGs,I went to ask permission to take pics and only found a mechanic who said be quick as the boss doesn’t like uninvited people in the yard,I think it was at the time when the animal activists were a problem, didn’t one of the brothers get beat up and the rest got together and sorted out the person(s) out even though they all didn’t get on?..happy days
Heres todays stuff,
Hope these are ok.

This image is of Steve Smith and Trevor Pye when they were racing grasstrack They were British champions in 1978 on a 1000cc sidecar and again in 1980 in the 1000cc and 500cc classes
Would not all those photographs above of the Great Dorset Steam Fair 2010 been better placed in their own thread?
Regards Paul

OK lets have some pics.
Hope these are ok…2 years and still going.
Cheers Bubbs,
Lovely picture of the Len Valsler ERF. Len was an ex employee of our friend Bewick, and it looks like he shared Dennis eye for attention to detail. LVs lorries always look tidy even today, and there seems to be quite a close likeness in livery.
9Hi Bubbs, I presume mechanic was Steve Cooke aka Cookie.God knows how long hes been with Peter, was a driver when I started and I think he
s still there now, theres been a few others, Doc, he was a great mechanic, but alcoholic, I heard hes dry now, well done that man The 3 brothers not getting on is "legendry" But, when the s*** hits the fan blood is thicker than water even in Bourton  I often used to wonder what sort of livestock hauling empire would they have become if they did get on? back in the 80
s would there have been anyone else moving livestock out of the U.K? I wouldnt have liked to be in the office if that had happened I can imagine some of the conversations :open_mouth: :open_mouth: As for other question you asked, I leave that to your imagination, I wouldn
t dream of answering it on a public forum
He did have blokes who would do anything for him,and I`ll admit, I was, no I am, one of those blokes.
Well done, good man !

Cheers Bubbs,
That one does, my mate worked for E Daniels who subbed to Edwards of Hull in Ideal Standard. We all strive to see a nice tidy roped & sheeted load, believe me that Edwards picture is very tidy. Under that sheet there will be dozens of odd sized radiators, the old cast iron type, strange shaped sinks, baths, urinals and pans. the odd bidet and a precarious balancing act to fasten them all on. Apart from that these lads were leaving National Avenue on Monday morning with up to 50 drops.
