Scrapbook Memories (Part 1)

bubbleman:
Heres todays stuff.

Heres one for old Harry, been in preservation for over30 years.

Cheers Bubbs,

290 HOA ran from Oldbury depot in the 60’s, a night driver (John Male ? I think) had a bad smash in it on a night trunk to Llanwern at Usk.
It got rebuilt by apprentices in the garage in their spare time, this took quite a while and when finished the whole fleet had been replaced by Guy’s and the Bristol got stood up, hence the fine condition its still in. It was later purchased by Dave Tarbuck who ran the driving school at BRS Bromford lane where it was stored for a while and taken on road runs , shows etc. I did have the pleasure of driving this fine machine with its original Bristol trailer, with a 150 gardner it would crack on and was fun passing modern trucks in it !

John-truckersinfo:

Love this thread, brings back some good memories of trucks from when I was driving around Europe in the 80`s.

With regard to the above pic…is that truck dis-embarking from a hovercraft■■? :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

I remember going on one a few times when I was a kid to Bolougne in my dads car but cant ever remember seeeing a hovercraft taking trucks??

Mind you.I heard a classic Formula 1 BULL(ZB) statement about hovercrafts whilst on a on a ferry once. Alledgedly, during one ferry strike or another alot of the teams were stuck in UK so Bernie Ecclestone hired a hovercraft and hovered all the teams over to a beach area in northern France to avoid the ports. The beach had been fitted with ramps etc and all the teams just drove their trucks straight off, up the beach and away into the Europe!!

It maybe true…who knows!!

Yes its true we had I beleive 4 tilts cut down and did trl swaps with the dutch drivers in Calais during the strike, the “pilots” of the hovercrafts were not happy and insisted on some steele flat plates being put down on the deck of the craft to spread the weight. Not a pleasent way to cross the channel as I can remember.

One for TransconAndy,Paynes 111.

I am pretty sure this picture was taken at the LDOY finals at Cranfield when this truck was brand new.
One of the Gaffers from Payne Jim Absolom was there with it for the show, in those days they shared the coca cola contract in Milton Keynes with Holtons.

bubbleman:
This 140 was new to Paul Maggs of Paulton, its seen here in Frank Parsloes NSH livery…he then put it on contract to Whitwills and got a coat of paint in their colours, about 1982 Mansel Davies the famous welsh haulier bought her but I was told she was a bit thirsty…last seen with the names scrubbed out on the coal convoys during the miners strike in '84.Pat (ainacs) had sister lorry PHO100P…What a load of useless information!!! :unamused:

no such thing marcus - exactly the sort of thing that makes this thread/forum what it is. keep up the excellent work

p.s - agree with wheelnut too, that Tornun Zyder F10 is bloody marvellous

Supurb stuff Marcus, your thread gets better & better. Loving all these flat top F10s, reminds me of my first lorry & those my old man had.

Bubbs.

Nice to see Coles on here Marc they even have all that dat on them to day wonder then he thought he would be a truck fest winner

I have been in all them lorrys i have

The Georgeson F12 was from the small fleet of Tommy Georgeson, who operated from various locations in West Lancashire and beyond. When I was at school (when this motor was new) he used the yard of Alfred Price in Burscough and ran a couple of Atkinson Borderers (with 8LXBs in them) out of there. I think this Volvo might’ve replaced one, it’s certainly around that time.

The motor was supplied by Lancashire Trucks at Kirkby and the reason I know this is that my neighbour at the time bought VKA 848V, which was also an F1217 of similar spec to 857V (apart from the front fog lights and plastic Hatcher top tank) and was delivered around the same time - August/September 1979.

Georgesons are still operating and the last time I saw a gaggle of their motors, they were parked up the drive of a detached house at Duxbury Park, Chorley - two or three DAF XFs.
