Hello again,Ian was spot on with Masons DAF originally from Stoke,I was counting on his extensive knowledge telling us who had it first…heres another similar one.
VEH533S sister to the Masons one yesterday,R&M Tpt seen outside the PBA offices Avonmouth.
Cheers Bubbs.
Hey Bubbs what year was this photo of VEH 533S taken? I bought this motor in 1982 from Solway DAF Carlisle, it was red I think with Stamar Transport on headboard (does anybody know of this co.) it eventually died a horrible death at Skipton one night in 83 when it took fire, I never saw it again and I assumed it was beyond repair and went for scrap, or was it salvaged and done up, the colours in the photo were the same as mine, so unless it was taken before I owned it, it can,t have been damaged as much as I thought.
Hi Bubbs, i’ve been meaning to ask for ages, have you any photos of any Stewart Cameron lorrys, they had F86’s F88’s the odd ERF and Roadtrain Sed Atkis and Scania’s in Ward Transport colours.
Long shot I know, but thought i’d ask
Cheers
Hi Robroy, all these square photographs were taken between 1975 and 1980,then I bought my first 35mm camera,so I would think around 79/80 as VEH would have been a few years old when I took the pic…R&M weren’t around very long
To the Ghost, look back a few pages on the scrapbook, you’ll see a Stewart Cameron Fiat XYS978S.
Cheers Bubbs,
Great pictures as usual Marcus thanks for sharing them.

All those DAF with the proper sun visors look the part, they make the cabs look properly finished, where the PVC coloured versions used in later years simply looked like a cheap add on.

Although you have given me loads of happy memories Bubbs, the pick of the Baylis park royal mandator shook me slightly,
the first job they gave me on there was with an identical unit (i cant remember the reg ) loaded with 20tons of plaster HANDBALL TO SOUTHMEAD LIME &MORTER if they are still there it nearly killed me when i got back to puckelchurch they said if you can stand that you will be ok here, i stayed there untill the begining of 1975 when i started for the famous or infamous Harding Bros . I worked there for 11years with a 1year break with some really cracking guys wierdly all of the same mentality i am still in touch with some, namely Jock Bristol who should be here in the morning, Thanks again Bubbs for all your effort take care Melv.
Sinbin 31 are you the Roger who used to work for PROMOTOR if you are do you remember one night in pireaus with two guys on Harding Bros we both had 89volvos we ended up in a restaurant you were speaking with a duch accent my mate ray (sadly no longer with us ) was pretending to be french I was so say translating everything to Ray for the company (say no more) & eventually you missed your train and slept on my top bunk .I believe you were working for FORD IVECO in kent the last i heard i very often think of that trip it was a lot of fun ,Take Care Melv.
Hi Bubbs
Nice Pix, Superb
John-truckersinfo:
Love this thread, brings back some good memories of trucks from when I was driving around Europe in the 80`s.
With regard to the above pic…is that truck dis-embarking from a hovercraft■■?
I remember going on one a few times when I was a kid to Bolougne in my dads car but cant ever remember seeeing a hovercraft taking trucks??
Mind you.I heard a classic Formula 1 BULL(ZB) statement about hovercrafts whilst on a on a ferry once. Alledgedly, during one ferry strike or another alot of the teams were stuck in UK so Bernie Ecclestone hired a hovercraft and hovered all the teams over to a beach area in northern France to avoid the ports. The beach had been fitted with ramps etc and all the teams just drove their trucks straight off, up the beach and away into the Europe!!
It maybe true…who knows!!
Hi again,it made me sweat thinking about that load of plasterboard Melv, even more sweat having to drive a mk5 Mandator
…Melv.I dont think Sinbin looks in on scrapbook, you’d be better off posting your message on the Astran drivers thread mate.
Heres todays stuff.
Heres one for old Harry, been in preservation for over30 years.
A different shot of a previous post good old tool.
Merryfasters F86,Bedminster lorry park.

K.F.Gardners DAF seen tipping in Waldons Foods ,Trowbridge.
Seatrains F10,Gordano Services M5.
This one on show at the Bath and West Show.
Wheelers ran this 30 years ago, they still run a smart fleet today.
This 140 was new to Paul Maggs of Paulton, its seen here in Frank Parsloes NSH livery…he then put it on contract to Whitwills and got a coat of paint in their colours, about 1982 Mansel Davies the famous welsh haulier bought her but I was told she was a bit thirsty…last seen with the names scrubbed out on the coal convoys during the miners strike in '84.Pat (ainacs) had sister lorry PHO100P…What a load of useless information!!!
Hope these are ok.
Cheers Bubbs,
