Marcus, when you are approachingn the age of 76 as I am. and you come across pictures that stir memories that have lain dormant in the brain for many years, that yourself, as the OP, and now others have posted on what is TNUK,s No1 Forum, without any shadow of a doubt ; Then you will realise the full value of “Scrapbook Memories”. You have been told, and told repeatedly to stop apologising for what you sometimes see as a pic. that is not up to the standards that you set yourself. To others, like me, every picture that has ever been posted on here has evoked memories of – a much loved and missed, former steed–a place–a former workmate–a former boss. A time when , if the going got tough, then the tough got going. Keep digging in that pile of memorabilia. It is always turning up great memories. Thanks for what you , and others put up for us all to enjoy. Keep up the good work. Robbo.

@Bubbleman orientmack above would like to know if you have any pictures of
any of the Turkish transport that travelled under the TIR banner and if so can you post a few please
On the last page Bubbs posted a photo of Lloyds Mammouth Major restored as a dropside. Here is a photo of it new as supplied during the war to
William Butler & Co Bristol.
Until the early eighties convoys of heavy cranes would pass through Bristol on route from Bath to Avonmouth docks.I think this was the last one.
Another familiar site at the time on th M5 was Gillards moving these beams. This one is at Sedgemoor services so has not been moved far before taking a break.
Not far from Sedgemoor services was the base of Mike Lawrence.
The engine is King Edward now restored and running.
Braby,s still make these silos in Bristol. This one is passing the Bristol City ground when the tobacco bonds were opposite.
Parked in Avonmouth docks.
This is the first time I have seen this thread!! and I’m only up to page 7 . That snap of the Malta Cross rig was like the one I drove ,it was a left ■■■■■■.MC had one truck & the driver was called Terry ,a Londoner . They had stopped going thru Italy & bought their own boat ,transshipping the containers -Marseilles to Malta. We dropped the containers off on the docks & had to wait for fresh containers to UK. We parked the units on Quay de Belge & stayed in an all expenses paid hotel overlooking the yacht harbour .Great times ! Those containers were 10 footers & weights were all over the place . They were held on by 4 clamps that had to be tightened by a spanner at regular intervals . One guy forgot & about Avallon area in France the back one came off . The crane came to put it back on ,it weighed 11 tons;loaded with books .
The driver before me was a guy called Ray who left & bought those two Silver Night Krupps in the other snap . That snap was taken in the Borough Market in the late afternoon .We had to go thru the market to get to Customs clearance by the Thames . If you got there in the morning rush hour it was hell to get thru but the porters in those days were very helpful ; one even shook my hand saying it was a miracle I got round a sharp corner - I thought so too !
My truck was owned by a guy called Len from Tottenham who sold all his tippers - (Diamond Something or other?) & subbed for Mr Roe . I got the job whilst doing agency work in London- I was doing multi drops for Marsham Tyres in a small van when I read the advert in the Evening News .Len sold the truck to Sean Hurley from Chingford who bought a few more .Then Malta Cross got into 20’ containers & sent them by train . Now Sean was running to Italy with tilts for Euro Cross ,I came up with the name (blush )
I got in with the wrong crowd ,Sean & me fell out & the rest is mystery .Sean was a v.good bloke .
I wish those snaps had a date on them somewhere because M Cross was my first TIR firm .
As you can see I got time on my hands & gout in the knee.
