A bit of trivia
There was a program on TV some years ago, (think it was hosted by Noel Edmonds) in the audience was Lancashire Dairies longest serving driver. At the end of the show he was surprised with a brand new unit for his loyalty to the Company. It was a bonneted Merc/Volvo/Scania, can’t remember which one. When presented with it he replied, in true Driver fashion…………won’t get that in half the places I go.
Lancashire Hygenic Dairies–I did 2 days for LHD as it was called then in 1976 working in the garage They put me in a shed on my own and told me to get a dseries ford ready for MOT,apparently it had been in there for 4 month stripped down by the mechanic who had then gone off sick (bloody nightmare finding the bits).2nd day was an early start 4am to make sure all vehicles were started and ready for there days work(no problem) once this was done it was a case of just hang around until the other fitters started at 8am,while waiting it was release time at the local nick(strangeways) and the cons came up past the loading bays and just took bottles of milk + orange and went on there way with no one saying anything, apparently it was an everyday occurance,2pm came and I put my tools in my car saying I had a job to do at home and never went back, that was a tuesday started new job following monday and stayed there for 24years.HAPPY DAYS.

Are Woodside still going Tankerian? I knew one of their Bamber Bridge drivers in the 80s,he was called Duggie - a scotsman and he used to come into GGD Maltby and load Belfast/Derry when they had the Littlewoods contract. He finished up with a 3-axled Merc unit in the early 90s.
Sorry no photos of my own but I’m sure I’ve seen some on here somewhere.

Could someone tell me what the angled pice of sheet metal, welded to the o/s side door was for?
I’ve seen it before on Marathons but never knew its purpose.
Is it part of a ‘Middle East pack’ or something?

Think it was some sort of dirt defelector to keep the side windows clean, but not sure
Hello,my pc is playing up lads,I just cant get trucknet up on it,been trying since 10 o’clock to get on…trucknet is the only site that wont let me on,everything else is fine…perhaps I’m not welcome any more .
Anyway because of this problem I aint got much prepared, heres a few clippings.
Ergo cabs which the Marathon is based on ,were notorious for the amount of muck thrown up onto the doors ,after a couple of years of production the Leyland group decided to relocate the mirror arms to the front windscreen pillars to help keep the mirrors clean, problem was with that was the sweep of the wiper never cleaned the part of the screen you looked through to see it…anyway as we know the routes along the middle east were no more than dirt tracks so the amount of crap thrown up was a great deal more than your average M1.Leyland made this side deflector which can be seen a bit clearer in the last cutting to combat this problem…I suppose this worked to some degree…dont know if Norman Ingram who drove one of the above can clarify this.I hope this answers the question.

Hi then, heres another bunch of my old pics…hope they’re of interest.
Next time I go to Yate the same reg off the Atki WYD656M is on this Volvo, the following week it was back on the Atkinson
Classic! In my early Pandoro days, the ministry man (who was resident on site at Fleetwood quay, along with Special Branch) had nabbed a pair of F88s from the same Irish firm and had them parked up side-by-side… with the same plates on! Apparently, he’d been suspicious for a while and was biding his time till they were daft enough to let them meet up! One had just shipped in whilst the other had just arrived to ship out.

Chris to answer your question woodsides are still operating as woodside haulage, the driver you knew was a guy called Doug Wilson who has since left the company and moved back to Scotland.
I have put some pictures on Big Als Site but unfortunatly i cant find any more.
hi bubbleman , just a quick one ,in reference to one of your earlier pics which is this freightline 85 scania b518 wou
a friends timber haulage company in the new forest has the sister truck b519 wou , seen here at truckfest in the late 90’s (next to armstrong leyland daf) cheers
Dont know for certain if that motor was run by them Andy, but it might have been run by a subbie. i think that pic was taken at superiors depot at offord.
Cheers
Bill

KW:
I always liked the F.B.Atkins livery, smart, well turned out and traditional, they certainly looked the part especially the Merc’s and Fiat’s they ran on continental work.
I remember the left-■■■■■■ Iveco 220-38’s they had in Felixstowe on container work, but I think they had gone over to the plain yellow livery by then.
Any more Atkins pics?
And does anybody remember a guy called Don Priest? I think he came from the Derby/Nottingham area (possibly Long Eaton) and drove for Atkins and then went to Taylor Barnard.
Hi KW this is a picture of a Atkins Int. truck when British Int. took over Atkins Int. After a few months they were in
the same livery as the one in front. When they were taken over they had no UK units so British Int. brought a load of
Iveco’s based at Hilton and Poole. They had some French reg trucks based in Cherbourg then later they moved to Caen
