The bestest ever thread on these forums, keep them coming, not to take anything away from Trucker Ash 1980’s Dover thread but Bubble has the edge.

More of anything you have got, and a picture of your missus to show the rest of us what a tolerant understanding wife looks like

Keep them coming Marcus great classic stuff.

As we have said before “you cant buy these in Tesco’s”

Regards Paul

I enjoy seeing both … but this one really captures the feel of things with those old Ford vans around, it brings to mind that warm smell of diesel in the cab missing from todays lorries.
Bye the way what did they call this type of Atki, I remember an 8 wheeler tipper of this type still working around the Staffordshire gravel pits in the late 60’s with “Uggly Mug” signwritten below a headlight.

It’s a bow-front - which was still available as an option from the factory until around 1962 - even though the Mk I Silver Knight glass-fibre cab which replaced it was launched in 1958.

It’s a bow-front.

Thanks for that Marky … the number of people I’ve asked and got answers like - " it’s just an old un ! "

Keep them coming Marc, used to go to Keynsham as a kid in the late fifties with my Dad to Vitamealo for flake maize, used to seem a fair old trip in those days, before the Severn Bridge and the motorways, now they would do two load a day…
Cheers Dave.

I think IJ Blakey from Hull purchased three of the superior bread trailers and painted them blue and put them on the contract with Smith and Nephew

totally agree ,marcus, those old bubble photos are briliant.

Those pics are brilliant Bubbs, love that old Bees Transport Atki. I remember their old Mercurys with a very early version deflector - strange looking beasts.
Keep up the good work - best thread ever. Thanks again for all your effort - you’re making a lot of old guys very happy (and maybe some younger ones too).

A Couple of nice looking D308 LAD cabbed Dodge 6 wheelers from the 60s.

Hello lads,Hey what nice comments…lets do some more, these are slightly better as I started to get used to the camera, obviously a cheap Kodak instamatic is’nt the best to take wagons with :unamused:

Looks like the C reg is 10 stud while the B reg is probably 8 stud.

I use to play in one of those while the driver was seeing to our kitchen cleaner in my dads pub

New to Wreford’s, I believe, and still being run by Antell’s now, the last of 3 interesting Atkis they once ran. The others were a 6x2 Leader, converted to double-drive and a Borderer, said to be the last Borderer (but not the last Atkinson) ever built. Both these had 240s and sleeper conversions.

Cracking photos, thank you!
