The pic posted by Stanfield of the Harding Bros Mandator took me back, In the early seventies i drove one just like it for Hardings ehy610k the fridge in the pic was a hubbard powerd by a perkins 4108 driving a generator they were not very reliable, we carried a fitting with us to fill a tnk inside the trl with liquid nitrogen i think the system was called Polarstream, brought back some happy memories
take care Melv.
Hello again, great FL10 pics Jamie…definatly would have struggled with loaded boxes …Suedehead wondered if Freightline Transport were still about…I went through my pics and from my recollections Curries swallowed them up in the mid 80s…here for a change from clippings are some proper photos.
This Mandator was up for auction at Shepton Mallet 1981
This old girl ended her days as a shunter in Avonmouth…note the cab locking system
2 Bubbles at the Shepton Mallet auction
1 of I think 2 F88s they ran.
Smart 111 parked outside the yard in Bristol.
Pretty new 142 with a Curries box on
This is where it gets patchy…suddenly it becomes Freightline85…
Then it goes to Tommy Williams…the original owner of Freightline
Now a few for Melv (papa numpty)
Hope these are of interest.
Cheers Bubbs.
As always, cracking photos Bubbs.
Does this mean you’ve got another lock-up full of your own photos to go with all the cuttings?
A bit of writing to read for a change,
This 3 shilling pay rise a week in 1954 is equal to 15 pence in todays money ( for the younger drivers).
This 50% increase in the speed limit for heavies may also have been in force.
A few adverts from the same era.
Phil-43 years on tankers what is a rope.
Bloody drivers want 3 bob a week rise and then they come in with a mirror hanging off and it cost 13/- to replace it
Next thing they will want the bloody mirrors automatic
Cheers Bubbs for the Harding pics, i was offline for a month & when i was catching up on here i think it was you, asking about a steel cabbed ERF that ran abroad for a co called Davies i wondered if you were thinking of a firm now long gone from Bath called Phelps & Davis as i remember they had one pale blue in colour, say hi to tony i think one of the pics was at one time his regular motor,Take Care Melv.
I wonder who ran this 142 originally?
It has an Ipswich reg no.,but the only firm I can remember from around that area who ran tag axle’s with the wheel turned the other way was Cowan Bros.,and I’m sure they never had a 142.

hi bubbs the piccy of Bob hassells motors brought back a few memories, worked for the geezer for a couple of years 70-72 ish,but not good memories im afraid…chris, also the photo of Edwards of Hull, used to get backloads of them when i was on ffor Smiths of Hanham, usually about 7-8 drops all round the local builders merchants with sanitary ware!
Ah bubbs the gwynne bowen motor brings back some memorys. When i worked for fred snaylam[bolton]in the 70s/80s i used to load back off him. Usually it was tinplate for the n/west.The only prob was as anyone on, here who has been will know the load was usually out of bs at ebbw vale and when you went in there you didnt know how long you would be getting loaded, terrible place[now defunt]i have heard.
regards dave.
Nowt wrong with your pics Marc, good stuff, keep them coming mate.
Cheers Dave.
