hi bubbles, used to see that ford turbine on the old A2/M2 Rochester bypass,it looked very impressive as it came past you, often wonder what happend to them, should imagine it went the same way as leyland turbine, bumper

hiya,
When i drove an 80 Marc, i was never short of matches to light the Woodbines, other drivers used to toss boxes of the things at me when being overtaken and that was everybody, what a pill that was enough to put you off haulage forever, although it would have made a tidy 4 or 6 wheeled rigid, but they was never a 32 tonner.
thanks harry long retired.
I know what you mean Harry,we had a bloody yard full of the damned things.Mind you the cab lights and heaters were ok .
I used to scout round the yard to see if there was a demo of another make lurking anywhere to take on trunk.
The coach on the back of the wrecker.
Is that the one from the “Italian job” ?
hiya,
Yes Chris the 80 had a very tidy comfy shed but there it ended i thought all my Christmas’s had come at once when i was handed the keys to that 80 but one trip and i asked for my old MK1 Atki complete with rock hard ride and deafening ■■■■■■■ engine back the answer was no so i stuck it for a bit then got another job easy peasy in those days they sure was an underpowered joke, i believe when they got a few miles on the clock they was prone to blowing head gaskets, nearly bankrupted a pal of mine who ran a couple of the things until he got a couple of 110s great motors i actually did an odd trip for him on my days off and using another logbook.
thanks harry long retired.

I have got to concur with you “H” about the Scania 80 ! We only ever had one and it was an absolute bag of S***e we spent a fortune on keeping it rolling so in desperation I parked it up in grave yard !! But I tell you what it deilvered up an absolute fortune in spares for the 81s we ran and over a number of years we robbed it for every thing you you could think of as it always seemed to still have the exact part we wanted at any given time !! saved us £s so I suppose it did redeem itsself in the finnish ! It was just a pile of crap when we finally weighed it in to the scrapper! I’ll see if I have a shot of it and we can pin it on the dart board. Dennis.

This defo was an 80 but had been badge engineered it had a good name as well “KATE” which just about say’s it all !! Bewick.
hiya,
That’s defo a horror Dennis have given your motors top marks until i saw that one have driven some awful things in my time but nowt as awful as one of them, i’ts actually featured on Bowkers motors on Northwest site in fact both motors i drove for them are featured on there the Atki is CBV 311C the 80 Is NCB 463H.
thanks harry long retired.
Lost count of the number of head gaskets I changed on them things, a company near to me had one brand new and it broke its pump coupling on its first day out, they persevered with it hoping it was just minor niggles but it got a lot worse wiith head gaskets ,pistons etc., 18 months old the engine block cracked and so did the owner!
A few more pics for you
Hi again, good feedback on the Scania 80/81…I must admit the ones I drove were ok,one would do 70mph…no trailer on though .Good to tease Harry cos he detests them
Mixture again.

the first time I drove anything it was one of those commer 30 cwt in the pic I was 12 years old in 1965 I worked for my cousin who had a big breakers yard in hendon on the nth circular oposite the hendon dog track (now long gone) my cousin had cut one down and fitted a crane to use as a breakdown he had the contract with brent council to pull all their dumped cars in he came in one day and the chassis had snapped in the middle I think the only thing keeping it together was the crane and the prop so I quickly had a go kangarooing round the yard before they cut it up, before I drove for a living I was a butcher for a number of years and I worked at the savoy hotel in londons west end in 1970 we had one of those commers it was kept in the underground car park this van only went out on a friday to deliver to other hotels in the west end it only did about 6 miles a week the rest of the week we had a lorry and driver supplied by youngs who were a smithfield carrier mostly petrol TKs the driver was normally the oldest and nearest retirement that commer was lined out in the back with stainless steel whoever got it after the savoy got rid must have had an lost new van happy days but memories are hard to recall sometimes, I am off for a month looking after old lady she has had a hip replaced so I am doing everything have done the washing and ironing for the first time in 34 years so I had a good run I suppose this site is keeping me sane as I am bored hope I am not boring you good people now must go got to cook lunch a nice big kipper for her happy easter to all)
Hi again, what a nice selection of pics from 3300 John…had to laugh at the charabang party, theyre supposed to be off enjoying themselves…what a right load of miserable sods, perhaps they had just pushed the Albion
.Once again some good input from Pat…heres some today which are right up his street
Hope these are ok.
Cheers Bubbs.
HiJohn, sorry to correct you but it,s not Bas Ball with the transit,It,s the same guy standing with the T/K. He lived on Prince Street and worked for Premier right up to his retirement. Very nice , quiet man, always rode around Leek in a classic Austin A 30 car , right up to a few years ago then he had another classic, a Bedford Dormobile caravanette. which i think he still has.My son knocked about with his son Jonathon. His name is Vin Smith. not the one of garage notoriety but the nice one… Got a few more pics will put them on soon. regards Terry.

By null at 2008-10-22.No relevance to the two on the right, but look at the 111 on the left. Two drivers Dave Clayton and Fred, from A & W Oldbury, used to come in to Coca Cola/Pepsi Cola over here every week. Two sound men,who were well versed in the local customs!
