Ramone, the one on the left is a MK3 “tin front”,just a dolled-up version of the middle one. There wasn’t a deal of difference between them just that the “tin front” looked a bit more modern.I don’t think there were any different instruments either,it was a long time ago when I drove either type.
The tin front 1 has fleet number 16 whereas the older middle one has fleet number 156 thats what i found confusing Chris

Thanks Retriever, but why? Is it a Guy? The earliest Guy I drove was an Invincible for Hedley Shaw before later moving to a Big J with Rodney Closs.
Or because of my ‘boat ride’ from Hull with McVeigh’s.
Your mentioning the boat ride but also for Bubbleman’s advert.
Have a couple of other images with McVeigh Guy four wheelers parked with Cusick vehicles also.

I never noticed that pal . It’s a pity the first letter of the reg is not visible on the “tin front”,we could then have determined the year of it. Smith and Robinson,as far as I know, always bought new wagons so it’s possible the “tin front” took the fleet number of a scrapper.
Or it could have been re-cabbed as you say…we’ll never know.

Is that a crease in the photo or a seriously split front tyre?

Hello lads…a few more old adverts…some long gone names
Cheers Bubbs,
That 1976 Marathon was well ahead of it,s time wasnt it? the first motor that I saw with a similar spec and kitchen pack, was a 1981 W reg F10 Globetrotter, that ran M/E, I know the US have had hi-spec cabbed motors for ages, but can anybody pre-date the 76spec Leyland, or was that the first type specced up in that way in Europe?

It could be a split, I used to go into their depot in Langley Rd, Machins Transport from Surfleet had an office there it was a bit rough to say the least. Regards Larry.

It was designed and produced by AEC very quickly John thats why there were so many shortcomings.Leyland held the ■■■■■ strings very tightly and gave them little to work from. The ergo cab and the bottom of a Clydesdale cab cobbled together and a turbo stuck on an AV760,add a 9 speed fuller (something they should have made standard on the underpowered mandator) and a dodgy Leyland back axle, but to be fair were they any worse than anything else being produced over here at the time,or was it a conspiracy by Leyland to finally kill off the much superior AEC brand .My cynical view

Apologies if I’ve put these on before.
Cheers Bubbs,
Good to see that old Dodge tipper. My brother had one of those with a V8 in it, he thought it was the doggs doodaas. He passed away 15 years ago this month & we were talking about his lorry earlier wondering what he’d think if he could see what we use to do the job today.

Well this was in a sale in Lincs, I was after buying it, apart from the drivers side front wing missing it was in decent condition, wouldnt of taken too much time and money to restore, but I was outbid when it started to go silly money it went over the two grand,. I wish now I had kept the one I had for 7 years. HTS 952 G. Regards Larry.
