Yes. I showed my mate the picture yesterday and it got him all maudlin about rod brakes stretching and decoked 2 strokes running backwards
He was an apprentice at Kays of Mackworth when it was actually Kays of Derby
Tut tut Bubbs. You know I only go for khaki !
Go and stand in the naughty corner !
bubbleman, I finally made through all those 67 pages; it’s been tough and time consuming but well worth it.
Excellent stuff, sincere thanks for bothering, scanning and sharing with us.
You can see many old lorries at shows or so, you can take hi-def pics of them, but it’s nowhere near as good as to see them on period pictures hard at their working duties.
Special thank for those two Hungarocamion Saurers with Blumhardt trailers in London, I think these are really priceless.
I may have a question more: anyone knows dimension of those “Northern Ireland Trailers” and “Ulster Ferry” boxes? (those early containers)
This thread is like the Forth bridge, by the time you reach the end you have to start again at the beginning, a never ending thread i hope.
Brilliant
Hi Marc,
Nice to see those ERF’s,especially the one of Smiths, just a shame they are no more, like all the rest of the british lorries.
Cheers Dave.

This was first bought for preservation by Peter J Davies, the eminent transport historian, in the mid 1980s. If I remember rightly, it was new to Laporte Industries.
What is it with women? I sat down and trawled through the first 16 pages of this thread again, and then she starts She thinks I am enjoying myself, it must be because she brought me two cups of tea and they both went cold
I have lifted some interesting pictures to me, local area and I may post them on a separate running thread if you don’t mind Marc.

Still around Chris, they take the name from Abbey Street Haulage but they moved into new premises.

They used to have a place in Goole too, but I think that has probably closed down since the docks are much quieter.
I cant explain the Anglo Caribbean link though as we used to carry Russian timber for them.
