Hi Alyn, great link there to Hoovers. I remember the Mk 5 AEC’s, and then the ergo cabbed ones that were in blue and white.
I went to Merthyr Tech with Hoover boys, and new lots of people who worked there. Its a shame they never moved into the extension.
I believe a can company now use that building, but it came at the expense of Reeds/Nacanco in Rhymney.
Happy New Year to you,
Paul

Hi Paul
Happy new year to you.
You are correct. There is now a can company in the building.
The Mandators were originally white and grey. When the blue was brought in there was a gold band between the white and blue.

Funny you should say that, there`s a Kenworth (i think) conventional i spotted the other day in a field just below the American Golf shop in Menston near Bradford,i noticed the doors were open so it may have been vandalised, looks like its been there a while
If that’s Audsleys yard at the bottom of Crowland St, it was razed to the ground in a big fire a number of years ago. A couple of ERFs, an Iveco TurboStar, an old Leyland Super Comet and a couple of Scammells were also destroyed.

Hey Ramone, it’s a Western Star by the look of it…
The driver of the Adams Mandator 4250 RF was Bernard Waring. John will know his son Stuart, he worked for Stevens of Macclesfield for many years running mainly to Swiss Terry

Thanks Retriever love these old photos especially the local ones.Going by the fleet numbers do you think the AEC on the left had been re cabbed as it looks more modern than the middle one ?
Ramone, the one on the left is a MK3 “tin front”,just a dolled-up version of the middle one. There wasn’t a deal of difference between them just that the “tin front” looked a bit more modern.I don’t think there were any different instruments either,it was a long time ago when I drove either type.
