Hi again,Gavin…I pondered over that pic of the Maggie for 30 odd years thinking “I’ve been in that cafe but where the bloody hell is it” then you asked the other day and it came to me …and I looked again and it was the Maidendown…it wasn’t the best place to stop as Morgans was a few hundred yards away and in my opinion was a lot better. The cafe still stands as far as I remember but in a derelict condition,I think a chap called Lee Smith ran his lorries from there at one time.
Anyway, todays the day for a few Scanias.
hiya,
some nice scania’s there marc drove bowkers first 80 got it new but wasn’t happy with it, i thought very poor at 32 tons and actually asked for my old atki back after one trip, it was twice the motor with a biggish ■■■■■■■ in her, didn’t get it though, the 110 of the same era was a different kettle of fish could have found a soft spot for one of them, did get one for the odd trip, lovely.

Hi Bubbs, nice to see the old Abbey Hill Daf 2800, dont think they had many of those. When i used to work for Cartransport at Queenborough, Abbey Hill used to come in and pick up Toyotas for the west country. They had mainly Fiats back then and it wasnt too long before they opend their own depot just down the road at Sheerness.
Going back to Cartransport,do you remember, each depot had a different colour stripe on the cab. Also each depot had a different make of truck. At Queenborough, we had Mercedes 1626s Red with a White stripe, then later 1625s with White cabs and Red stripe. I think Birmingham had Leyland Roadtrains and Newhaven had Dodge 300s. They were a massive fleet back in the 80s with depots all over the country, do you have any pictures of these in your magic box?.
Rgds Mark.
Here you go Mark… one from 68 when they first changed their name to Cartransport (BRS)
and a couple from the early 60’s just as they were going in with Furness & Parker
Nice to see the old Cartransport AECs, bit before my time but i do remember them. They also had some Guy Big Js if i remember rightly. They were a very interesting company were Cartrans.
Mark R…When they started in coventry 1959, I went out with my Dad, 3 days after the M1 opened IIRC, if you look though Bubbs thread there are loads of Cartrans pics including the big j’s, my Brother used to drive one of those in the 70’s, I worked there in 1990.
The Foden S83 belonged to ■■■■ of ■■■■■■■ and was probably being driven by Hector Marr the photo was taken on Buccleugh Street bridge in Dumfries long before the bypass was opened and all the A75&A76 traffic still had to thread their way through the town. Eddie.

Talking of Bowker’s Marc it’s time for an ad break
Have started a gallery about Bowkers on the Nothwest Trucks web site.
hiya,
Moomooland just looked at the Northwest site and was surprised to see on the Bowkers page a couple of my old motors the atki with the ■■■■■■■ which i lost to go on the scania 80 real pile of rubbish in my opinion, asked for the atki back after one trip but no joy she was very thirsty though have had her doing about 4 to the gallon when in hurry up mode, the old atki was nicknamed the “powerhouse” a corker of a drivers motor but a bit sore on the gaffer.
