Hi Bubbleman …great pictures of bardon hill quarries ERFs I drove one of these briefly in 1975 after bardon hill had sold it to a friend of my fathers…still a good truck gardner 150 with 6 speed “chinese box” the only downside was it was only single axle drive not very good for off road work.
Hi Marc
Trant is a large civil engineering company from Totton on the outskirts of Southampton.
They run 2 Foden Alphas now an artic & a 6-wheel rigid. Also tippers & grab loaders.
Hi Marc yes P Trant Ltd started by Phil Trant very early 60’s I think first base was at Hythe followed with a workshop at Holbury, and then a pupose built site at Rushington near Totton Southampton, my father worked for them driving a 22RB from 1962 till he retired in 84, just after Phil died in a tragic car crash in Ireland. As tribsa says they are still going strong and have quite a few other associate companies such as PTC amongst others.
Regards Pat
Bryans come from Okehampton in Devon, they have renewed alot of there fleet.
Hi again,Bubbs here with some more bits of yellowing paper!!!
Hope these are of interest.
Cheers Marc.
Great pics Bubbs, like the old MANs, the old cabbed 1’s are virtualy non existant on ours roads today, apart from the odd 8 wheeler knockin about.
Keep em comin Bubbleman
Hello these next few cuttings are from the “odds n ends” box…
I wonder how many on here have driven past or had some nosebag in this place.
Dont know if todays pics pass the test, only a one off
Cheers Bubbs.
Hi bubbleman, sshhh I’m skivving at the moment! The top pic showing the French truck on it’s side- I remember the incident and the company well. IIRC I was in north London on that road either when the accident happened or just after. The company ran all american trucks (whites?) and you could see their depot from the motorway near Bethune it is still there I think but a different name is operating from there -don’t know if it’s the same co.
The bottom pic is I’m sure the Monkey House near Mont Blanc (Ican’t remember the name of the village). It is by-passed now and I think the road has a weight limit.
Seeing as you are doing ‘odds & sods’ do you have apic of the KW on it’s side in Warwick Road London from the 80’s ? It was in all the mag’s at the time.
Keep up the good work Gavin
Gavin, like you I was also interested to see the pic of the fallen French wagon. I’ve seen the pic a few times and always wondered what the story was behind it, so it was interesting to read the inquest details.
Without being a smart arse, I think that the tractor unit was actually a GMC, extremely rare in Britain at that time ( apart from all those grey, daycabs running between the American air bases)
I think C & S Motors recovered it. Dont know if they used their stunning black Transconti or not.
Cheers
Mark
Hi again,Gavin…not sure if I got a shot of the kw you mention, will keep it in mind mate.
Scania today lads.
Hope these are ok.
Cheers Bubbs.

Bubbs
Cheers Bubbs another great installment!
Good afternoon Bubbs, Mark et al,
A bit of information regarding the French-registered truck that went over in Islington.
It was a GMC Astro 95, one of about 30 that Transnoeuxois ran over the years. They had a large North American content in their fleet, including KWs as well as the jIMMYS. They are sadly no longer as the operation was put into liquidation in June 2008. Ironically at that time (2008) they were part of Trans Artois Frigo (TAF) which operators will know from their large yard just besdie the main Autoroute near Bethune in France. As another aside, they were the initia backers for a truck concessionairre called Navi Norpen, who were the North of France distributors for GMC, Bedford, Kenworth, and latterly Foden. Navi Norpen were owned by Dany Wathier, who is now well known for his high-profile KW fleet operating tank and dry freight ttrailers in France.
G’day fellas,
here’s a pic of one of the French Jimmy’s,nice looking motor.
Cheers Jamie
