When I worked for E M Rogers, the boss bought Ridbridge for the permits. I wondered for ages why all our trucks had Ridbridge address on the backs of the cabs. If I remember, they were from somewhere in Sussex. Great looking Scammell !

Now look here Marc  STOP TEASING US ALL and put some of your “PROPER GOOD STUFF” on here.

On a personal note: I have my trousers down and I’m ready and waiting

This Buffalo was one of a batch of 20 that were bought by Pandoro - all came with the L12 engine (203bhp) and 6-speed box.
There was a need for some lightweight tractors on the fleet (still 32T then of course) and the Atki Borderers that had previously
fitted the bill were being retired.

The Buffaloes were an unmitigated disaster - I do remember one day when 16 out of 20 were off the road for repair. They were
so bad that Leyland provided 4 brand new Marathon 2s, painted up, for about a year to compensate for the downtime on the
Buffaloes.

They were replaced after about two years by two batches of the newly-developed 32 ton version of the Seddon 300, and
which Pandoro were instrumental in developing.

The Buffalo in the picture was the only one shipped to Northern Ireland to work with these heavy tanks, and I believe the photo was
taken on the coast road near Larne. The tanks were on a round trip job between Pontypool and Kilroot for ICI Fibres.

Hello…more Scannys today

Again, I hope these are of interest.

Cheers Marc.

I was in Italy when this strike was on.Because the Blanc and Frejus were closed,I dropped down south and crossed into France at Vente Miglia then made my was up through France using all the back roads.Drove all day and all night and found a small border crossing into Belgium in the early hours.
Rang my boss,)Ray Phillips),from Brussells and he wanted to know how I’d got back from Italy when half his fleet were stuck on the Blanc.
I said that they were only ladswho were waiting for the Sun to deliver the Yorkie bars,(Who remembers that?)

Was that the Menin Gate border crossing Ian

Good ol’ memories thread this one is innit. Any chance that you could scan in the whole article about Mike Furlong bubbleman, I used to know him back in the early 70s and I’m back working with him now, over 35 years later. We sometimes talk about that strike, Mike was on the evening TV news at the time as well, he’d love to see the full article.

PS,was there any accompanying text to the pic,or was it just a shot of the tipper at a ‘Tip In’ ? Would love to know where it was based. The reg. plate is alien to me ! I know they had a few Constructors at Markfield quarry in Leicestershire, but I thought they were all later versions (Y reg onwards).
