Scrapbook Memories (Part 1)

Coffers, have you spoken to Paul Blackburn at C+C?

Im sure he would be only too pleased to let you see some of their historical photos?

Great thread, from the days when Glasgow was a three day trip from London and the heater was a blanket on the engine cover, the pic of Frederick Allens 4wheeler brings back memories as I lived in Bedworth, the pic was taken (I Think)outside their yard in Bayton Rd Exhall,I think they were dealers for ERF or somebody like that, also Brenda Allen was in my class at school,I think somebody took them over, anyone know who.
Regards derek

Hi there again,
You lot must have had enough by now but heres a few more anyway

Ok thats it for now :frowning:

Cheers Marc.

Have we had enough■■? You must be joking!!! Im addicted to this thread. And im sure im not the only one. Thanks again Marc.

Please Sir Can We Have More…■■?

MORE… MORE…■■?

Great thread and yes more please

never have enough marc!!..

Great thead, at last one of Mortons BRS, the building in the pic was built for BRS Car Delivery in 1959/60 when they first moved into car carrying, they moved there from London Rd. it’s now part of the DAF dealership in Rowley Rd.

This thread just gets better and better.
If you substituted the flat-bed trailer for a box van body , one of the pictures you posted on 28th Sept, of the Mastiff, of Coggills of Leeds, could have been one I drove in 1972. This was a replacement for a Laird unit whose engine blew up (canted over 6 cylinder). At the time i thought the Perkins V8 of the Mastiff was the Dog’s Doo-dahs, but then again, I was young (26) and innocent at the time (that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!) .
If you could get round the copyright issue bubbleman, I am sure that if your archive was published in book form, you or anyone who could do it would have a best seller on their hands.
Failing that, does anyone on here know how to save articles from these threads as a separate file on their computer for future viewing. Or does that break TruckNet’s copyright issues?
Like man-tga, I too had loads of old truck magazines (I had Truck from issue 1 till about 2000 as well as most of Trucking International & Truck & Driver, but had to chuck them out when my wife kept falling over them in the garage. This was before the advent of E-Bay, I could have retired early if I had sold them on there   instead of which they are probably in a landfill site in North Devon.

Hello everybody,some more pics later,
In reply to Kickstarts comments,I’ve no objections to anyone copying anything I’ve put on the thread  .so thats an ok from me
I did’nt cut up my Truck,Trucking internationals and Truck n drivers magazines ,they are safe  .I must admit though the Commercial Motor thing was getting out of hand so it was the right thing to do…its strange though to see people at lorry rallies asking the earth for a single copy but if you see somebody wanting to dispose of 1000s of them nobody wants them because of the space they take up :open_mouth:

Cheers for now,Marc

Cheers Marc.

I like the Crusader with the west coast mirrors, anyone know anymore about it.

What a totally brilliant thread   please keep them coming!
All the old pics and little write ups have certainly brought back memories for me but the one of the ‘MacGregor’ ERF 8 Leg tipper (page 4 of this thread) really struck a chord its looks like my old man behind the wheel.
I can remember going to ‘MacGregors’ office in Oldham with my mum to pick up my dad’s wagepacket, I must have been about 5 or 6 years old but it stuck in my mind because when my dad got home he was always saying what a good job he had managed to get, this was the late 50’s
IIRC the job was actually based in South Wales running coal nationwide for the booming mining industry and the ‘old man’ was away from home all week and sometimes didn’t come home at weekends.

Can’t remember how long he was on for them but I do remember him being gutted when they packed up, sadly my dad passed away 2yrs ago aged 86 but he was still driving at age 70 doing a day trunk for Clearways, Plymouth to Bristol & back, on the Boots the Chemist contract.
Health problems brought about his retirement but I’m sure he would have carried on until his dying day

RIP Ted Pennington

this was the heavy’ist load ever to cross the tyne bridge.
also a old photo of the swing bridge, :unamused: :unamused:

I wonder how they got this onto the lawn at Little Moreton Hall?

More to the point - how did they get it off again?

And I second that about the Crusader, but those west coast mirrors, in a Scammell advert? Pretty sure they weren’t a factory option - or were they?

Hello again,heres some more,

Hope these are ok,

Cheers Marc.
